My mind keeps drifting to her—the curl of her hair, the way her eyes light up when she laughs, the quiet confidence she carries even in the most dangerous situations. I find myself glancing at the door, hoping she’ll walk in at any moment. My fingers twitch toward my phone to see if she’s left me a message, and I catch myself staring out the window, imagining her on the lawn, walking toward me, her white hair catching the sunlight.
