Chapter 9 Let Them Fall

• The loud sirens that had filled Ashbourne’s downtown suddenly stopped. Police cars rushed to the glass entrance of the Whitmore Group building. Inside, the press conference had turned wild. Hundreds of reporters pushed and shoved, trying to capture the dramatic end of the biggest corporate scandal in years.
• Vanessa Crane was no longer hiding. The quiet, innocent image she’d kept for so long was gone. Two federal agents held her against a heavy door. She was crying, gasping for breath, shaking with fear.
• “You can’t do this!” she screamed. Her voice broke as handcuffs locked around her wrists. “My father is Martin Crane! You don’t know who I am! That girl made it all up to destroy me!”
