Chapter 14 Dad Will Look for Mom Now

  • Ember glowered at the unconscious Cathy with an unholy grin on her lips.
  • "I thought she would be tougher after enduring such a long time as a stuntperson. Who would have known how easy it is to knock her out?"
  • "What would you like me to do now, Miss Shaw?" The thugs who had kidnapped Cathy whispered.
  • "Send her to Room 1102. Dick will be there soon."
  • "Yes, Ma'am."
  • Immediately, the thugs picked Cathy up to carry her to the room. However, when they were carrying her to the other room, a piece of jade ornament fell out of her pockets.
  • The jade ornament glittered like a star as it lay on the carpet, catching Ember's eye.
  • Frowning, Ember approached the shining ornament and picked it up. "The drunkard gave it to Cathy?"
  • She snorted coldly and placed the jade ornament away.
  • Ember lived with Chris until she turned eighteen and has seen this jade ornament.
  • She recalled hearing Chris accidentally telling her that the jade ornament was instrumental in her search for her biological mother and that her mother was someone special.
  • She thought of taking the jade ornament with her when she left the slums, but she was not able to find it.
  • She did not expect Chris to give Cathy the fool such a precious ornament.
  • Did you think you could find your mother, Cathy? Dream on!
  • "Miss Shaw."
  • Soon, a man with a beer belly and a wispy, half-balded head approached Ember. "Is she ready? Are you sure the Boltons are in the dark?" Dick asked.
  • "Don't worry. She is very keen to serve you, Dick. She is a nobody to the Boltons. Why would they care?" Ember grinned.
  • Mr. Bolton was known to be a cruel man who would not send any bodyguards to protect Cathy. Even if he did, she would have shaken them off already.
  • After all, having a father who was a drunkard was not something people would announce to the world. She would not want others to know what her father was like.
  • Ember anticipated that Cathy would go to the slums to give money to Chris and had sent people to ambush Chris' place.
  • "Great!"
  • Dick rubbed his hands together and reached for the contract Ember had drawn up to sign at the bottom of the sheet. "I will cooperate with you every year if she serves me well!"
  • "Thank you, Mr. Wayne." Ember smirked before adding, "Have fun before time runs out, Mr. Wayne. Run along!"
  • The man smirked lustily and strode away.
  • According to the rumors, Mr. Bolton's face and temper were ruined in the fire, along with his reproductive system.
  • He was a monster to the women because he could not get it up!
  • Dick thought that although he was old, he would be useful that way.
  • At the Boltons residence.
  • An international conference was happening in the study room.
  • Sitting in his chair at the top of the table, Adrian frowned as he listened to a blonde woman explaining the new business strategy in French.
  • The conference carried a stern atmosphere even though it was conducted online, so much so that it was nearly suffocating.
  • "Bang!" Someone slams the door open, and Abner dashes in frantically. "Dad, mom is in trouble!"
  • His yell silenced the conference call immediately, and the people on the other end of the conference call stared at Adrian wide-eyed.
  • When did the boss get married?
  • The elegant and stable man did not look flustered. "What happened?"
  • "Arius was on the phone with her when she screamed, and then it was silent! After that, she did not pick up any calls."
  • Abner was red with nervousness as he grabbed Adrian's hand. "Dad, save mom! She might have been abducted!"
  • "What if someone saw her beauty and decided to do something to her?"
  • The young child tugged on Adrian's hand while he pled desperately. "Help her!"
  • Adrian frowned at Abner. Although he was playful, he rarely lost his composure, which meant something must have happened.
  • Adrian got up, picked Abner up, and strode out of the room.
  • The people on the other end of the conference call stared at Adrian's empty seat, flabbergasted. They were unaware of whether to end the call or to wait for him to return.
  • Arius, who was wise beyond his age, climbed into Adrian's seat and spoke into the receiver sternly, "Dear members of the conference, there is an emergency in the family. My father is fighting for his happiness; hence the meeting is postponed."
  • After his short speech, Arius ended the conference call.
  • Immediately, the European branch burst into exhilaration.
  • At last, the boss was planning for his future! The workaholic had postponed a meeting for his wife!
  • "According to the location on mom's phone, the last place she was at is here!" Arius tapped on his laptop as he spoke into his earpiece at the alley in the slums.
  • "I found the lady's phone, Mr. Bolton." Soon, one of the subordinates presents Cathy's phone to Adrian, which was old and had a shattered screen.
  • Adrian stared at it for a moment before tossing it into the bin.
  • "I will get her a new phone now!" Abner jumped at the chance and began to scroll on an online shop on his tablet, whereas Arius frowned while observing the scene outside the car. "Why would mom be here?"
  • The slums were a long way from the set.
  • Adrian tapped furiously on his laptop and stated promptly, "Galaxy Hotel."
  • Hugging the smaller version of a laptop, Arius looked up at his father. "How did you know that she would be there?"
  • "Although there was no CCTV in the alley, there was one outside. I followed the trail and identified that she was taken to the hotel." Adrian was a man of few words, but he was willing to explain everything to his son.
  • Arius slapped his forehead. "You are smart, Dad!"
  • He thought of tracking his mom's phone, but following her trail slipped his mind! Furthermore…
  • The young child looked up at his father. "Dad, how did you manage to go through all the videos?"
  • Adrian hummed, then got out of his car and instructed his children, "Go home, I will take some men there."
  • Arius nodded, knowing that he and Abner were too young to be of any help. "You need to bring her back, and she has to be all in one piece, okay?"
  • "I'll try my best." Adrian said simply, before getting into another car and zooming off to Galaxy Hotel.
  • It would be more than half an hour since Cathy was snatched off the streets. Hence, Adrian did not dare to say whether she was safe.
  • "Bang!"
  • Immediately after the door to the hotel room was flung open, a metallic stench of blood spilled out of the room.
  • Cathy, who was pale as a ghost, lay on the bed with blood all over her body and her clothes in tatters. The white sheets of the bed were stained crimson.
  • Adrian's eyes narrowed when he saw the bloody scene before him.
  • "Shut your eyes and turn away!" The bodyguards behind Adrian immediately turned away and shut their eyes.
  • As Adrian ambled into the room, the simmering scent of blood began to boil over.
  • When he finally arrived at the bed, he had to steady himself before touching her hand but could not stop himself from trembling. "Cathy…"
  • That was the first time he called her name, and he had no idea that it would be in this scenario.
