• The council room was still buzzing after Durk’s words. He had just confirmed Izzy was to be declared heir, and the weight of it sat heavy in the air. Some members looked furious, others doubtful, and a few smug like they had been waiting to see her fail. Izzy kept her back straight, not letting her face twitch.
• “Are we seriously supposed to accept this?” Marco, one of the older councilmen, leaned forward on the table. “Vincenzo can’t even walk. And now we hand the family name to a girl who hasn’t proven anything?”
