Chapter 7

  • THE DISGUISE
  • KAYLEEN
  • I woke up with a knock. My heart beats faster again making me awake. I stood as fast as I could be heading to the door. Maybe it’s the guy from last night. Maybe he came back to check if he is right about what he thinks. I can’t hear a voice but I’m nervous.
  • “It’s me,” Zeke’s voice calmed me a bit but before I unlocked the last one, a thought suddenly barged inside my head.
  • What if he is with cops? I stepped back and opened the only window I have in the room. It’s quite small but I can pass through it with my petite body. I also checked the outside, it’s not that deep to jump.
  • “Hey. What’s taking you so long?” He used a very low voice that only us can hear. I opened the door a bit to peak on him. He is alone as I see it. I swung it a bit wider but not exposing myself. He came in fast too.
  • “Did anyone see you come here?” I asked.
  • “I think no but I found another place for you to stay,” he replied, handing me a paper bag. I checked on it and saw a wig and some other stuff.
  • “Wait. Do you want me to—“
  • “Yes. You have to look like somebody else or we will be jailed. It’s illegal helping you like this. I’m a doctor, my license could be revoked.” I realized something after hearing those from him. I can’t ruin his life too because of me.
  • “Thank you so much for helping me but this isn’t right. I can’t drag you to my mess. I can’t let you help me and get into trouble.” Guilt is all over me. I started wearing the wig and faced the mirror. I went inside the comfort room to change. After everything was ready, I showed myself to him.
  • “You did it well,” he said, impressed by how I looked. He even looks at me from head to toe. His hand is about to clap but I glared at him so he didn’t continue the action. The black curly wig suits my face shape and the fitted dress above my knees compliments my body well. I also wore blue contact lenses and some fashion glasses. The black jacket hides a sexy top and the pair of black boots completes the look.
  • That smile he is wearing makes me feel comfortable. It’s the same smile he had when I first met him.
  • “Let’s not call this helping,” he said standing up from the chair he’s been sitting. “Let’s call it getting your trust.” He shrugged.
  • “What?”
  • “You heard it right. Anyways, I know you have doubts about me. That’s good. Don’t trust anyone so easily.”
  • “Even you?” I asked starting to pack some of my things and some food.
  • “Yes. Even me. Don’t trust me. I might change my mind one day.” His voice is serious again. It’s kinda making me feel pressured. I feel like I’m always in trouble. I only knew him for a few days but I spilled my secret to him. Not everything but I guess he has a clue already on what it is.
  • I put my bag on my back and face him. “I have to go.”
  • “Woah! Lady, what do you think you are doing? I’m going with you.” He grabbed on my wrist and walked first before letting me go. I immediately locked the room’s door and ran to tail him on his back.
  • “Doctor!” People from other rooms called him. They look so happy and grateful seeing him with a genuine smile on their faces. I look at Zeke’s back while he is talking a bit with them walking very slowly. He is such a good man and he is trying to help someone possessed by a demon.
  • A familiar voice caught my attention. “It’s nice seeing you here again doctor.”
  • That guy is the one who came to my room last night. He is busy talking with Zeke while I am memorizing his face. I think he saw my face. When his eyes met mine his face went blank.
  • “Who is she?” he asked Zeke. “She kinda looks like someone—“
  • “My girlfriend.” My eyes widened after hearing what Zeke replied to him. It made my heart skip a beat and then triple the acceleration. I almost forgot to breath. My knees felt like jelly that anytime I’ll fall to the ground.
  • “I didn’t know you have a girlfriend.” The guys smiled at me. That smile made me feel a little relieved. He can’t just recognize me that easy or else I’m doomed.
  • We continued walking until we reached his car. We immediately sat inside. That’s when I finally had a chance to breathe normally.
  • “Are you okay?” he asked.
  • “No. By the way, why did you say that?”
  • He started the engine and accelerated the car.
  • “Said what?” His eyes are fixed on the road now while I’m staring at him.
  • “That reply you give to that guy.”
  • “What guy?” He also gave me a question furrowing his eyebrows.
  • How am I supposed to ask it to him? It’s kinda awkward. “Forget it.”
  • “No. I can’t just let you fly with some things hanging.”
  • “I can’t say it,” I mumbled, crossing my arms and harshly pressed my back on the seat. “It’s embarrassing,” I continued in a whisper.
  • “What?”
  • “Forget it.”
  • “Come on!”
  • “Why did you say I’m your girlfriend?” I burst out. He went silent then later laughed at me.
  • “Is it a big deal?” His question sounded so irritating that I rolled my eyes at him.
  • “You’re just not my type.”
  • “Wow. Well what do you want me to say? I just did it to help you out of that scene. And, I already have a fiancé. It’s just that, I don’t publicize my life. There’s no need for that. Well, a lot knew about her except for them and you.”
  • Well, it’s awkward that it shut me to silence.
  • “Did it disappoint you?” he continued, asking an insane question that almost made me punch him.
  • “Why would it disappoint me?”
  • “Because I’m a handsome and hot doctor but I'm already taken.” I can see how he smirks just by my peripheral vision.
  • “I don’t care okay?” He laughed out loud making me more irritated the more distance his car travelled.
