Chapter 8 His Wife

  • _ A Few Days Ago_
  • Inside a spacious apartment, a man was sitting elegantly on a large sofa facing the floor-to-ceiling window that overlooked the large swimming pool on the other side of his house.
  • His handsome face was bathed in the light and he wore a calm expression while browsing through his phone.
  • He made a call which went through immediately and a cheerful voice was heard from the other side.
  • "Son, you finally remembered mummy. When will you come back?" The other person asked, happiness evident in her voice.
  • "Mum, you know I like it here in City M," Jack whined to his mom with a gloomy expression.
  • Since he came back to this city, his mom had been asking him this same question every time he called her.
  • Although all his father's companies were here in City M, they had moved to a nearby city twenty-three years ago.
  • He knew his mother had been paranoid since that incident that happened many years ago but she had always concealed her sadness.
  • He sighed and added calmly. "Don't worry, mom, nothing will happen to me. I'll be fine," he reassured her softly.
  • His mother also sighed from the other end. "I'm sorry for acting like this, Son. Please take care of yourself," she said. "Don't forget to eat on time. And don't stress yourself with work. Your dad will come back next week, make sure you come back to see him, okay?" she added, quickly retaining her cheerful voice.
  • Jack chuckled and replied, "Okay, mum. take care." before he hung up.
  • After hanging up the phone, he looked at his assistant who had entered while he was making the phone call and had been standing beside him.
  • "This is the information I gathered, Sir," his assistant said while handing him some papers.
  • Jack took the papers from his assistant hands and stared at the front page.
  • Name: Clara Yang
  • Age: 24 years, graduated from College of arts and technology M City.
  • Occupation: Software programmer at Cha Software Corporation.
  • Hometown: XX province.
  • Mother: Anna Lin.
  • Occupation: Farmer.
  • Father: Richard Yang.
  • Occupation: Farmer.
  • Sister: Lily Yang.
  • He looked intently at the information on the first page while smiling to himself and flipped to the next page where her picture was attached.
  • He gazed at the picture while caressing it, he then turned to his assistant and said, "Good job. you may leave."
  • After his assistant left, He stared at her picture and caressed it with a satisfied smile.
  • "Clara," he whispered.
  • When he first saw her, he was attracted to her and couldn't stop thinking about her. She felt so familiar and he felt an indescribable sense of closeness to her.
  • 'I must have her,' he thought with a glint in his eyes.

  • _ The Present _
  • Clara was on the hospital bed and Carl sitting beside her while Zach was still standing, facing them.
  • Carl was staring at her as if memorizing her perfect features and her heartbeat was in chaos when saw how intently he was staring at her. She looked away shyly with a flushed face.
  • Zach stared at his brother and shook his head. It was very clear as day and even a small child would understand that his brother liked the girl. But he was going to scare her off like this if he continued staring at her like an artifact.
  • He cleared his throat to ease the awkward atmosphere in the ward when a nurse suddenly walked in with a bag of medicines on a tray.
  • The nurse placed the tray on the bedside table and looked at Clara with a friendly smile then asked her a few questions about how she was currently feeling, which she answered honestly. Then she turned to Carl.
  • "Sir, your wife's condition is okay now. Please make sure she doesn't stress herself and rest well for the next few weeks. She should also avoid cold foods and lots of sugar. And also make sure she takes these medications, the prescription is written inside," she said in a professional manner before smiling once more at Clara then left the hospital room.
  • Clara blushed uncontrollably and turned to the other side to hide her embarrassment when she heard the nurse call her his wife. She had totally misunderstood. However, looking at them in this condition, everyone would think that they were family because they were all wearing pajamas and came to the hospital at this late hour together. Everyone would surely think they came out of the same house.
  • When Carl heard the nurse say his wife, the word echoed in his mind for a long time and he looked at the girl who had already turned her head to the side, seemingly embarrassed.
  • He felt an indescribable joy in his heart when he heard that word.
  • Marriage had never crossed his mind before, he was a workaholic and never spared a glance at girls even when he was in the university.
  • He that hadn't even thought of having a girlfriend before was now overjoyed after hearing this one word. He glanced at the obviously embarrassed girl and smiled awkwardly.
  • Zach was surprised when he saw his brother smile once again. He could count the number of times he had seen his brother smile before.
  • However, his brother was smiling today as if he had picked a precious jewel when he heard the nurse call the girl his wife. He thought something must be wrong with his brother and stared at him closely.
  • Carl turned to his brother and saw that he was staring at him intently as if examining something. He frowned and wondered what his brother was up to. "What?" He asked with a frown.
  • " N–nothing. nothing," Zach said awkwardly and scratched the back of his head. Maybe he was wrong, his brother looked totally fine and his frowning face just confirmed it.
  • Carl looked away from his brother and said, "Go and get her new clothes."
  • "Heh?" Zach was baffled.
  • He looked at the time which showed 2:15 AM. Where was he going to get clothes at this hour? He grimaced silently and replied, "Okay" before running out of the VIP ward while checking his GPS for the nearest mall. He luckily found one when he reached his car and quickly drove off.
  • Inside the VIP room, the atmosphere was awkward, Clara was still staring at the wall on the other side while Carl was looking at her. He suddenly remembered her phone which he had managed to collect from Zach after they reached the hospital. He took it out and thought she would need the sim card.
  • He cleared his throat before saying awkwardly "Your phone." He was seemingly embarrassed. What would she think of him now, he thought anxiously and lowered his head slightly.
  • If Zach saw him now, he would surely faint out of shock.
