Chapter 6 Decisions

  • “Olivia, don’t bother coming to the club. You are fired.” She heard an angry voice from the other side of the phone before the call dropped. So what she feared happened. She was not surprised at all. But she was indeed worried. What would she do now?
  • It was a cruel world. To think that he was the one who had harassed her, and he should have been the one to bear the consequences but no, she was the one on the receiving end. Might is right. She understood the concept really well that day.
  • “What happened? Why do you look worried?” Her mother came to her room looking concerned. She did not realize that she had been standing in the same position.
  • “Oh, it is nothing. I just got a call that today I can take the day off.” She said with a fake enthusiasm. Her mother still did not buy it.
  • “Then why did you look worried?” She asked doubting her. Damn her mother was so smart!
  • “I have not been given a day off this sudden, so I was worried what to do today.” She tried to laugh, “Come on! Don’t stand this long. Sit here.” She brought her to her bed and made her sit down. Her mother features visibly relaxed.
  • “My innocent daughter, go out and have fun. You hardly get a day off. Call Sana and make plans. I will call Mary and spend some time with her. Don’t worry about me.” She brought Olivia’s face closer and kissed her forehead making her smile. She knew her daughter would worry about her all day. She wanted Olivia to enjoy life like normal girls her age did and not take responsibility of everything at such a young age of twenty-one. Unfortunately, nature did not allow her to do that. She felt so bad for her.
  • “Okay mom, make sure you eat your food on time. I will be back before you know it.” She smiled and left to take a shower.
  • She had made the excuse but she did not know for how long she would be able to hide the fact that she had lost her job. To be honest, she did not want to return either specially after what happened to her or what would happen if she faced Joe again. She was at least glad that he had not pressed charges against them. For some reasons, Joe seemed like a coward in front of the arrogant stranger who had saved her the other night.
  • She quickly put on an orange t-shirt and black jeans. She let her hair dry on their own as it would not take long since it was peak of the summer. Her mother had left her room when she came out. She sighed before dialing Sana’s number.
  • She was her best friend from childhood. They lived in the same neighborhood before Olivia and her mother moved out. They could no longer afford the rent and found a cheaper apartment in another neighborhood. But they were always connected. Sana never left her side even when they lived twenty minutes apart.
  • “Hi darling!” She heard her cheerful voice from the other end which made her smile instantly.
  • “Hello, where are you?” She asked. Sana studied architecture. It was their shared goal since childhood, but Olivia could not afford college after she was done with school. She was glad for her friend though.
  • “Same old college.” She heard her dramatic sigh. Olivia laughed but remembered why she had called her.
  • “Um, Sana, do you know any jobs I can apply for?” She asked hopping she would get a positive answer. Sana’s father did a lot of networking since he was a social worker that was why she decided to ask for her help.
  • “Why? Don’t tell me you finally quit the so-called job!?” She said with a bit of surprise in her voice. It was understandable since Sana had been pestering her to quit the job. She did not like how men lusted after her innocent friend. She had told her numerous times that she would take care of herself, but she still did not like what she did for a living. She wished she could tell her that the feelings were mutual.
  • “I did not quit. I was kicked out of the job.” She said with disappointment. There was a pause but she suddenly heard a screech. She put the phone away from the ear wincing.
  • “Oh my God, you made it. Finally! Congratulations bitch.” She said with such cheerfulness that it almost made her believe that she had gotten a new job, not the other way around.
  • “I have lost my job and you are being happy.” She shook her head at her crazy friend.
  • “Yes. Yes. That sick-ass job did not deserve you at all.” She expressed her detest as she always did.
  • “I know. But Sana, I don’t know what to do.” Olivia sighed sitting on her bed. She was truly worried. She had to get a new job as soon as possible. Her mother’s expensive therapies would not run on their own. That job was the only one that paid her a decent amount. She was afraid she would not be able to earn much with her qualification.
  • “Don’t worry, love. I’ll talk to dad. He will find a way out. Don’t you worry okay?” she nodded and then thanked her. She did not know what she would have done if Sana was not in her life. She was aware of everything, and she knew she could count on her anytime.
  • “Love you. Let’s make a plan to meet. I miss you.” She said and Sana gave her consent. It had been a week since they had not met. Sana was having her finals, so Olivia thought to give her space. Now that she was done with her exams, she could not wait to meet.
  • She hung up the phone and took her resume from her drawer. She could sit still. She had to try to find a job.
  • ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
  • Thomas’s POV:
  • “Go tell you master that I am not a child anymore. I don’t need anyone’s watchful eyes on me. I can take care of myself.” Thomas told the driver angrily who was probably given the task to look over him by his grandfather.
  • He was fed-up with his grandfather’s tactics. He had not slept the whole night thinking what he would do now that he had received a serious warning from him.
  • He drove off his new SUV leaving the bewildered driver behind. He was not in the mood to entertain his grandfather’s wishes at the moment. He needed time for himself to think.
  • He had spent the whole previous night contemplating what to do. He even called his lawyer friend to take suggestions from him, but he had clearly told him that his grandfather indeed had the right to not give him a penny since his father did not have shares in the business. He was a respected professor who rebelled against his grandfather and gave his intakes in the business occasionally. That was why James Walker had a lot of desires to make him the head of his billion-dollar business as soon as possible before Thomas rebelled just like his father.
  • And he had no choice! He could not live on streets. He could not give up on his luxurious life.
  • He could not understand who to marry. He had not though in his wildest dreams to marry so soon. He had run off his thoughts over all the girls he had been with. The only girl he was ever serious with was Jade Parker who he dated for a year. The witch who ditched him for an old renowned billionaire two years ago. He had never been ditched except that one time. May be that was why he could not believe in love and long-term shit. May be, that was one of the reasons why he changed girls like one would change clothes.
  • Nobody could be fit for the position to be his wife. He was so confused. He did not want a wife, so he decided to marry someone temporarily just to secure his position in front of his grandpa.
  • He sighed turning the car towards a place he was well aware of. She was the only one he could think of at that moment. It was as if all the other people were erased from his memory and only she remained. He had no idea why he felt like that.
  • He parked his car and went inside. It was almost the same time she had performed the other night that was why he chose the timing. The club was not that packed like in the weekends, but there were enough people. He just wished he did not face Joe. He could not promise what he would do after seeing his face.
  • He waited for an hour in hopes that she would perform, but the last performance was done and there was no sight of her. His brows furrowed.
  • “Excuse me, where is the girl who always performs last?” He had noticed that she was the one performing last. She must have been the ending act always.
  • “Are you asking about Olivia?” The bartender asked. He thought for a moment. Her name sounded familiar.
  • “Yes, I think she is the same one.” He nodded.
  • “Oh, she has been fired.” She informed him coolly and went to attend her customer.
  • He was surprised. That bastard must have been the reason she was fired.
  • He left the club after getting her address from the bartender. She was looking at him weirdly but gave her address nonetheless. It was late at night, so he thought he would go find her the next day.
  • He was putting in a lot of efforts for someone he did not know. Someone whose profession made him frown. Someone he was going to give an offer.
  • It was selfish of him to think what he was thinking at the moment, but may be God had given him an opportunity that she lost her job. Now, she might not have any other way than to accept what he had to offer.
