Chapter 2
- Chapter 2
- The world's famous billionaire Varga Monti stood impatiently in his study waiting for Ruby to arrive,
- He wondered where the heck she was, She was already 40 minutes late despite knowing how much he hated unpunctual people.
- His eyes kept on looking at the entrance camera on his computer, this was the first time Ruby was late.
- Just what was soo agent that she didn't call to explain she would be late? He felt frustrated.
- Just then, his three girls walked into the study and ran toward him.
- "Daddy!" they yelled happily taking turns in hugging him, his face immediately lit up into a smile,
- "Hey my Babies, Did you guys brush your teeth?" he asked.
- "Yes Daddy, you always say brush your teeth first thing in the morning," Zaya said imitating his voice making the other two girls giggle, she was the naughty one among the three,
- "Good, now Am sure Ben has already made breakfast, you girls can go and eat while we wait for Aunt Ruby to come," he said, the girls nodded and turned to leave,
- Have they were about to walk out the door, Maya turned to him.
- "Where are you taking Us today Daddy?" she asked, Monti, considered her the childish and silly one among the three,
- "That's a surprise" he answered smiling, the girls rushed out of the room giggling to themselves while speaking in whispers probably trying to figure out where he was planning to take them, Raya hadn't said anything as usual, she never did unless she thought it was necessary, she acted the most matured and intelligent for her age.
- Has the girls left his study, his eyes went back to the computer, it was almost 9 am, and just then Ruby walked in at the entrance, Monti immediately got the telephone on his desk and called Ben.
- "Sir" Ben answered almost immediately.
- "Tell Ruby to come straight to my study" he ordered sternly.
- A minute later a slight knock was heard on the door, he didn't answer as his habit.
- Ruby walked into the room her head bowed low.
- "Where were you!" he demanded his voice harsh and cold,
- "Something came up sir, am sorry I"
- "Just what the heck was important more than the girls Ruby, you know your priority is them, you were supposed to be here before they even woke up and here you are an hour late and giving me that shit" Monti was now yelling, it was good the walls of his house where all sound proof so the girls and the others outside the room wouldn't hear anything he didn't want them to hear,
- "Am sorry sir" she apologised her voice shaky, everyone considered Monti a sweetheart but those who worked closely with him of course knew he was anything but that, except to his girls, he had a temper anyone would tag as physio.
- But nobody in their right mind had ever mentioned that to him of course.
- "Sorry won't solve anything, this better not repeat itself, Ruby, now go and prepare the girls, we will be leaving in 20 minutes" he ordered.
- Today was a weekend and the only day he got to spend quality time with his daughters, he was angry that Ruby had already made him lose an hour of his precious time Despite knowing fully well how angry that would make him,
- Six days a week, he only to see the girls before he left for work and late in the evening just in time for Dinner and reading their bedtime stories,
- It wasn't easy being a CEO of the most successful company in New york And a father, it wasn't easy to balance the two, that's why every Sunday, he gave all his time and attention to his kids, they were by far the greatest thing that had ever happened to him and he treasured them.
- Has Ruby bathed and dressed the girls one after another, her mind was elsewhere, should she tell Monti? She shook that thought aside, that would only endanger the life of her son more and she couldn't risk it.
- In 20 minutes, she was done preparing the girls and took them outside to the car to wait for Monti,
- "Aunt Ruby why does daddy seem to be in a bad mood?" little Raya asked, she was always curious even with the little things around her, Ruby turned to her forcing a smile.
- "I don't know the answer to that Raya, as it is your father is always in a bad mood" Raya's cute little face turned into a frown.
- "That's not true," she said upset, before Ruby could form a response, Monti got into the car and the Driver drove off,
- Monti had noticed that Ruby had been distant and deep in thought since she came but he was a person who never showed any concern, he considered that weakness and just watched her actions from the corner of his eye.
- Ruby Sat silently at the far end of the sit deep in thought when her phone suddenly rang, she looked at Monti for permission and he nodded his head allowing her to answer the phone.
- "Mom" she heard Leo say and felt her heart Melt,
- Tears were already visible in her eyes.
- "Leo, Leo, are you okay," she asked almost in tears forgetting her boss was next to her.
- "We know you are in a car with Monti and his kids, this is the perfect time to tell him about you quitting Ruby, we don't have much time, and trust me, don't try my patience" Sara hissed on the line.
- "Yes," she answered before the phone disconnected.
- She was silent for a while before she gathered the strength to speak.
- "Sir, I want to quit working for you for some time" She finally said.
- She knew how difficult Monti was and his refusing was very likely,
- "No!" he answered after a few minutes just as she thought,
- "I have to, my son is sick, he, em, he needs my attention and care right now, he has a terminal illness" she lied tears Covering her face, it would have been better if it was a terminal illness than a kidnapped son most likely to be killed.
- "No, the girls need you, you are the only mother they have ever known, they can't even go a day without you" his voice now sounded slightly soft,
- "I know, my sister is nice and kind, she will fill in my place while am away, the girls will love her" she lied trying to get him to agree.
- "You are the only woman I have under my employment, the girls are still young, they need a woman to care for them but I won't just employ any woman whom I don't know" his voice was back to its usual cold self
- "She isn't married, she doesn't even have a child, the girls will love her sir, just give her a chance to fill in my place, I promise you won't regret it" Her heart was filled with guilt as she said this, she just wanted her son to be safe.
- Monti had been silent for what seemed like forever but only mere minutes.
- When he spook he told the driver to turn the car around back to his mansion,
- He felt that Ruby's son also needed her attention and it would be soo unfair if he didn't let her see to her son's health if the woman was her sister then it was okay if she took her place if the girls would like her,
- "Come with your sister tomorrow morning and then we will talk after that," he said and that was all Ruby wanted to hear to feel relief...
