Chapter 5
- "Daisy?"
- My eyes narrowed as Declan closed the gap between us.
- "How could it be you?" He asked and my lips curled up slightly.
- I glanced at Zara. "Call the security team up, how could they allow a random man into a place this important?"
- And then, acting like I didn't know who he was, like the man before me was not an identical match to my twin son, I walked away and entered the board room.
- Artificial intelligence was impressive and had taken the world by a storm so I wasn't surprised when I saw that more than twenty representatives from the largest firms and industries already waiting.
- "Good day…."
- Very quickly, I addressed them from a speech I had prepared beforehand and also announced the five companies we were going to work with for our first launch here in Sacramento.
- Just as we finished, I got a message from Zara letting me know that the press had arrived.
- "If you don't mind, you can leave through a side door and a press conference would be held for the five companies just outside the door."
- Zara walked closer to carry my stuffs and the flashing lights of cameras welcomed us as we stepped outside the building.
- "Miss Daisy, what was your main motivation to create the artificial intelligence?" One of them asked while another shoved a microphone close to my mouth.
- Just as I was about to reply, my eyes met with Declan's familiar figure standing somewhere in the crowd, watching.
- All these years, I had wondered what his reaction would be when he saw me.
- I had wondered how good it would feel when he saw how successful I had gotten when he saw what I had built.
- But right now, staring at the familiar face of the man I loved and adored for more than six years, all I could feel was pain and heart ache.
- How could it have ended?
- How did he change? And why didn't he want our kids?
- Regardless of how much Axel and Stefan checked, his medical diagnosis hadn't been found in any of the hospitals he used, and even the ones he didn't.
- I glance back at the press and give them my brightest smile.
- "Five years ago, I had a tragic accident, an accident that took away most of my memories and left me with my ability to code. In my darkest moments I would think, how good it could be if I could safeguard my future memories inside something…" I paused, my smile widening at the still silence.
- "Artificial intelligence hasn't gotten to that level yet, but, we have taken the first step by creating the first part. Going forward, it would only get better!"
- All of the press representatives that we had hired were from respectable press companies. After my introduction which I kept vague because I didn't want to be associated with Helios right now, we introduced our partners and everyone was well on their way.
- "We better not have any news in the next one year," I joked as I setttled in my office.
- Zara chuckled and not long after, the door opened with a young girl bringing a cup of coffee. I shot Zara a grateful look.
- This was my best part of working with her, not having to voice my every need.
- Just as I turned on my computer, a video call alert flashed on my screen and I picked as I saw my mom's name.
- "Are you on your way back, princess?" Mom asked as her face zoomed into the camera.
- "I have some work that I…"
- Before I could complete my words, the phone changed hands and Axel's face appeared on my screen.
- "You work as though you are trying to build generational wealth for your kids," he teased and I couldn't help a chuckle.
- "Just in case you have forgotten, Helios can take care of the three of you."
- He brought the phone closer so that I could only see his face, "and even more if you want."
- "Tell her to come back home right now!" My father's stern voice sounded from behind and if I didn't know any better, I would have been deceived into thinking that he was genuinely stern.
- "Mommy, where are you?" Rigel called out and my heart softened.
- I glanced at Zara and she raised her iPad, "there's nothing pressing on your schedule, I had it cleared since your trip was today too."
- Hearing her, I sighed and glanced back at Axel.
- "Where's Rhea? Let me see her?"
- The camera switched and I saw Rhea sitting alone in a corner in a yoga position while simply staring into space.
- My heart ached at the sight and it was all I needed to change my mind.
- "I would be home soon."
- I ended the call, packed up everything I needed and left with Zara tailing behind me.
- Just as we got downstairs, I saw Declan's and I froze.
- How was he still here?
- "If you keep acting like you don't remember me then I'll go ahead and let the world know that you are my wife."
