Chapter 116 The Breakdown
- My head was still bowed, shaking from the ringing left by the gunshot. I hadn’t even realized I’d squeezed my eyes shut until the silence thickened again. When I looked up, my body tensed automatically at the sight in front of me.
- Mrs. Prescott was on the floor, bleeding, still alive , barely but whimpering like an injured animal. It was one of the officers who shot her right in the upper chest, just before she could pull the trigger on herself.
- Her breaths came out broken and wet, her chest rising in short, shallow bursts as blood began to spread through her blouse. Her hand twitched once, like she was trying to reach for something, maybe Kyle, or maybe the gun again. But she was too far gone.
