Chapter 7 : Giving Up Struggling

  • Upon hearing that Xia Xia was fine, Lu Mianxin's emotions slowly calmed down.
  • The glimmer in her eyes gradually returned to the lifeless state it was before, and after a moment of silence, she slowly uttered a few words, "Okay, I'll eat."
  • Emily finally breathed a sigh of relief. She was really afraid that this little troublemaker would refuse to eat. If she failed to take care of her, Boss would definitely hold her responsible.
  • Emily immediately turned to the black-clad man standing behind her and said, "Go and change the food to something hot."
  • It had been several days without food or drink, and after crying so much just now, she was completely exhausted.
  • Although it had only been three days without eating, she visibly became thinner and more haggard.
  • Not long after, someone brought in a steaming plate of food.
  • The style of the meal was simple and nutritious, with two meat dishes and two vegetable dishes. The portion was not particularly large, but it was enough for an adult's meal.
  • Emily handed a pair of chopsticks to Lu Mianxin.
  • She tremblingly took the chopsticks with her hands.
  • It had been too long since she had eaten, and now she could barely muster the strength to lift her arm.
  • Just as she was about to take a bite of rice, she still looked at Emily warily and asked, "Did you really not do anything to Xia Xia?"
  • Emily nodded, her face expressionless.
  • This was the first time she had been so patient with a sold servant girl.
  • If it weren't for the boss personally instructing her to take good care of her, she would be afraid of being held responsible if the person died in her hands. She definitely wouldn't have such a good temper now.
  • A place like the Imperial Court never needed kind-hearted people, and she didn't consider herself one either.
  • "Don't worry, I won't lie to you about this. But if there's a next time, I can't guarantee anything. Hurry up and eat, take care of your body, and I will arrange work for you."
  • Whether it was because she hadn't eaten for too long or because she simply didn't have the mood to eat, she had no appetite at all. But for Xia Xia's sake, for those innocent people who were implicated, she could only force herself to finish all the food on the table.
  • Although the rice in the lunch box wasn't very hard, when she swallowed it, it felt as if the grains were raw, making it difficult to go down her throat.
  • Occasionally, she would feel nauseous from being choked, but even so, she managed to finish all the food on the table.
  • However, shortly after finishing, she rushed into the bathroom and vomited everything she had just eaten.
  • The sudden influx of food caused her stomach to contract and spasm, unable to withstand so much food.
  • Although she no longer rejected eating, she had been eating and vomiting for the past two days, ruining her digestive system.
  • Helpless, Emily had to find a doctor for her and had the kitchen prepare some soft and mushy food.
  • It took a whole week for her body to fully recover.
  • Today was her first official day of work. Originally, she was filled with unknowns and fears, but when she thought about how she had been abandoned in this place for so long without her parents even showing up to see her, she felt particularly hopeless.
  • It seemed that the Lu family no longer wanted her as their daughter.
  • She had always known that her family favored boys over girls, but did they have to sell her off like this?
  • Wearing a low-cut skirt made her feel extremely uncomfortable. She sat in the break room with the other princess-like girls, waiting for the supervisor to assign them work.
  • Among them were others who, like her, were starting their first day of work, carrying a nervous and uneasy feeling, unsure of what future they would face.
  • There were also women who constantly touched up their heavy makeup and smoked cigarettes, having worked here for a long time.
