Chapter 7 Deal With It

  • Elsie put on her lab coat and medical gloves, her eyes cold and indifferent.
  • "I'm the special forensic consultant reporting today, Elsie Simmons." Without hesitation, she picked up a foul-smelling body part and examined it without so much as a wrinkle on her forehead. "Tough luck, I have the qualifications to critique your work. Don't like it? Deal with it."
  • Yvette and Bradley knew someone important was coming from headquarters today, but they never imagined it would be this young woman in her twenties.
  • Both of them stared at Elsie in disbelief, unable to react for a long moment.
  • Seeing them just standing there, Elsie narrowed her eyes. "Staring at me? Do I have crime clues on my face?"
  • Even though Elsie wore a human skin mask, which greatly diminished her looks, her sharp eyes and the calm, commanding aura she exuded made people instinctively reluctant to object.
  • For a moment, neither Yvette nor Bradley dared to be distracted. They assisted Elsie in marking, photographing, and bagging the body parts in the snakeskin bag.
  • Once everything was done, and the body bags were loaded onto the vehicle, the three of them returned to the police station with the body bags.
  • As the car stopped at the police station entrance, Elsie got out.
  • She was about to follow the body bags into the autopsy room when an unfamiliar man blocked her way.
  • "Ms. Simmons, Mr. Tyland has been waiting here for you for a long time. Could you please step over to that Bentley for a word?"
  • Elsie glanced at the Bentley not far away, her eyes rebellious. "Before inviting someone, shouldn't you introduce yourself?"
  • Jared was slightly taken aback. As Leonel's assistant and the Beta of the Scarlet Veil Pack, he had dealt with many people, but he had never seen a woman so directly challenge him.
  • "Ms. Simmons, my boss is Leonel Tyland, the president of Zenith Group. He wants to have a word with you."
  • Zenith Group was Leonel's corporate headquarters in human society.
  • Leonel?
  • Even though Elsie had been away from Elysian City for five years, she had still heard Leonel's name.
  • Leonel was the richest man in Elysian City and a significant figure in the entire Nova Republic. His interests spanned real estate, finance, chips, sports, entertainment, and more. Wherever there was money to be made, he was there.
  • And he had another, lesser-known identity—Alpha of the Scarlet Veil Pack.
  • This was a secret known only to those in the wolf pack.
  • Over the past few decades, the werewolf society had gradually integrated with human society. Werewolves no longer secluded themselves within their packs but entered human society to run businesses and even participate in politics.
  • The Scarlet Veil Pack, led by Leonel, was a very successful example. Its members held significant positions in human society.
  • As the Alpha, Leonel was even more renowned. Everyone in the world knew his name.
  • However, while humans only knew him as the richest man in Elysian City, they were unaware of his unshakable high status within the wolf pack.
  • Since Elsie returned to Elysian City, she had lived as a human and had never interacted with Leonel. Why was he suddenly seeking me out?
  • Not one to overthink things, Elsie dismissed the question. "Tell Mr. Tyland that I'm busy with autopsies and don't have time to see him."
  • Jared was stunned, and so were Bradley and Yvette.
  • "What? The person inviting you is Leonel Tyland, the richest man in Elysian City ... "
  • "Boss, it's one thing to ignore others, but how can you refuse Leonel?"
  • Elsie glanced back at her two assistants and frowned. "Are those three body bags fully examined yet? Even if you want to meet Leonel, you need to finish the autopsies first!"
  • In the morning sunlight, the girl looked unremarkable in the backlight, but her eyes were naturally authoritative and her presence commanding.
  • Knowing the autopsy task was urgent and demanding, Bradley and Yvette dared not say more and followed Elsie upstairs to the autopsy room.
  • Jared watched Elsie's determined back, knowing he had failed his task, and returned to the Bentley dejectedly.
  • When Jared returned, Leonel looked up from his documents. "Jared, where is she?"
  • "I told Elsie you wanted to talk to her, but she refused ... without even thinking about it," Jared said, his voice growing quieter towards the end.
  • Without even thinking?
  • Leonel had approached her sincerely for Sophie's sake, but he hadn't even gotten to see her.
  • "Did she give a reason for refusing?"
  • "She said she was busy with autopsies and didn't have time to see you."
  • After saying this, Jared cautiously glanced at Leonel through the rearview mirror.
  • Leonel's eyes were deep and cold, his fingers lightly touching his thin lips as he looked towards the major crimes unit building. "If she's too busy with autopsies to see me now, then I'll wait until she's done."
  • Over the years, Leonel seemed to be constantly occupied with work, leaving his two children in Leroy's care, but he had never neglected Fabian and Sophie.
  • He would never give up on any chance to cure Sophie's mutism.
  • "Jared, did you get Elsie's file?"
  • "Yes, but it's just basic information," Jared said with a headache. "Maybe it's because of her profession, but her past experiences are all hidden."
  • "Our people couldn't hack the system?"
  • "Mr. Tyland ... " Jared closed his eyes and confessed, "We couldn't hack it. Not only that, but our system got hacked back, costing us millions in code."
  • A gleam flashed in Leonel's eyes, and a smile tugged at his lips, eager and intrigued.
  • "Such an interesting human! Now I'm even more determined to meet this Elsie ... "
