  • The wind carried the smell of rain long before the storm reached the fortress. Lucien stood on the northern wall, watching the dark line of trees in the distance. The night had been uneasy. His wolf hadn’t slept — pacing, restless, growling uneasy for reasons he couldn’t name.
  • Below, the courtyard still echoed with the sounds of training. Blades clashed, orders were shouted, but it all felt far away. His thoughts were on Dorian’s report, the silence in the woods, and the feeling that something was hiding just out of sight.
