• I’m separated from Ace. I don’t have him by my side, and I feel unsafe. Even with him bound and kneeling on the ground, as long as he was near me, and his eyes were on me, everything felt like it would turn out okay. Now? In this black SUV with these strange armed men? It’s all I can do not to curl up in a trembling little ball.
• But Ace wouldn’t want that, so instead, I keep my chin held high and stare down each of the men who dare to look my way as though they’re lower than dirt.
