Chapter 7 Find Another Girl

  • “Desperate?” McAdams was a little surprised but then remembered something. “President Henry is coming in a few days... but Miss Wilson is wounded now...”
  • “Find another girl.”
  • “What about Miss Wilson?” McAdams asked.
  • Kenzo remained silent.
  • At first, he had thought of Emerald as just a poor and weak girl, one he would’ve killed if she hadn’t grasped his pants and pleaded for his mercy with her bright eyes, which had finally moved him to spare her life.
  • She was docile and young enough to satisfy a man in bed, even without having sex, with her struggle, despair, and endurance before surrendering.
  • With his sadistic inclination, President Henry would have been delighted with her and her natural reactions. However, her background was perfect, poor and alone, living in a chaotic low-class District for a while with no identity or history. In other words, she would not be missed if she had just vanished into thin air.
  • However, she was sensitive and resolved and unexpectedly aware that her future was at risk and was rising to the situation by making calculated moves accordingly. She was willing to go all the way, including giving him a blow job last night, which had obviously been a challenging move for her.
  • She was like a kitten groveling between his legs. There had been a moment when he thought it would be nice to have such a pet.
  • Kenzo knew about taking a bullet, which may sound easy. Still, it was a rare opportunity for most people, and the majority would consider it too dangerous to risk their own lives for someone else, even in her condition.
  • However, she obviously had thought it through and done it bravely. She had known that saving Wade Starling’s life meant saving herself. There was a brave little woman under her fragile appearance.
  • Thinking about what Emerald had done, Kenzo looked up and said with a slight smile. “Harvey, would it be too strange if I do something kind?”
  • Harvey McAdams looked stunned, “My Lord, I don’t know how to answer that... it sure is hard to imagine.”
  • Kenzo nodded. “So I won’t do anything kind, but the woman who saved the mayor’s life shouldn’t die for no reason.”
  • Before Kenzo’s arrived at the mayor’s mansion, Emerald had woken up to welcome her first visitor.
  • The handsome young mayor was wearing casual clothes and smiled warmly at her.
  • “Are you feeling better, Miss Wilson?” He sat beside the bed, looking at her pale face.
  • “Much better,” she nodded quickly, “it doesn’t hurt that much anymore.”
  • Wade remembered how she had begged him to hit her so she would pass out and said gently. “I’m sorry.”
  • “Why?”
  • “That I couldn’t hit a woman who had just taken a bullet for me last night.”
  • Emerald smiled nervously at his joke, and an awkward silence followed.
  • He was looking at her with his soldier’s ardent and direct eyes, which made her lower her gaze to avoid meeting his eyes.
  • “Are you afraid of me?” He asked.
  • “No, of course not.” She answered cautiously.
  • “Director Lane is coming soon to see you.” He said in a low voice.
  • “Yes.” She answered quietly. No one could tell whether she was happy or not.
  • Wade saw her finger grasping the sheet tightly and looked at the thick bandage wrapping her shoulder. Then, he couldn’t help but ask. “Miss Wilson, you saved my life, and my life is pretty valuable, as you know.”
  • Emerald smiled.
  • “What do you want me to give you in return?”
  • She didn’t respond.
  • “Money? Jewelry? Connections?” He paused. “or, freedom?”
  • She was shocked at those last words and stared at him.
  • Emerald’s look confirmed his suspicion about her. Emerald Wilson was not the kind of person as Kenzo Lane had presented her last night. Maybe she was being held against her will by Kenzo.
  • He kept staring at her as he said, “If you are forced to stay with someone, maybe I can help you?”
  • Emerald looked at his encouraging look for a whole and finally smiled.
  • Wade was surprised by her smile and asked. “Don’t you believe me?”
  • Emerald shook her head.
  • Wade kept staring at her, waiting stubbornly for an answer.
  • After a while, she finally said with a bitter smile. “You can’t give me what I want.”
  • Sensing the sadness in her words, Wade stopped asking since he didn’t like forcing people into submission. Instead, he looked at her with sincerity, “Anyway, I don’t take any favors for granted. You can contact me anytime you need me. The Sterling family will help you if you want anything in Hope City or even in the galaxy.”
  • “Thank you, Mr. Mayor,” Emerald responded gratefully. “What you just said is more valuable than my life.”
  • Hearing her words, Wade pauses before he says. “Don’t look down on yourself.”
  • Before Emerald could answer, she heard a low voice coming from the door. “No one will look down on her.”
  • Shocked by those words, Emerald saw a man in uniform walking in. Standing beside the bed against the light, he looked quite handsome with his strong face, broad shoulders, and long legs.
  • “Director Lane,” Wade said. “Miss Wilson has not recovered yet. She should stay here for a few more days.”
  • Kenzo glanced at Wade, then sat directly on the edge of her bed and held her waist. Emerald trembled slightly under his sudden movement, then she looked at him directly in the eyes and smiled.
  • Without looking at Wade, Kenzo responded. “She has bothered you for too long. She will go back today.” His voice made it clear that he would not accept a refusal.
  • Wade watches Emerald bow her head down for Kenzo to touch her and falls silent. Finally, he said. “The doctor will come soon to check her wound before she goes,”
  • “Okay. Mr. Mayor, I would like to have a private talk with her.” Kenzo smiled at Wade.
  • Wade was still hesitating when Kenzo stood up. “I don’t think it’s appropriate for Mr. Mayor to watch me and my woman share our private time.”
  • Wade couldn’t do anything but leave. When Kenzo walked him out of the door, she couldn’t help but say in a low voice. “Director Lane, I know it’s a little inappropriate for me to say it, but Miss Wilson was shot. You can’t.”
  • Kenzo stared at him, “Can’t what?” And closed the door before Wade could answer.
