Chapter 11 A Senior Executive Alarmed
- In the commander's office at the General Affairs Bureau in Jacaster hung an oil painting on the wall with the words Protect and Serve.
- Two guards stood rigidly at the door, ever vigilant.
- On the imposing and solemn mahogany desk lay an array of items. There were top-secret documents, an ornamental vintage pistol, and ten neat rows of landline phones.
- Each landline phone had a piece of paper attached to it with certain words written on it.
- They include, secretary, military affairs, family, congress, and so on.
- The paper on the landline phone at the very front, in a conspicuous spot, carried the words: Divine Healer.
- At the table, a strapping elderly man with gray hair was engrossed in a book, his expression serious and focused.
- Suddenly, the ringing of a phone broke the silent.
- Ring! Ring! Ring!
- Pierre Holmes lifted his head in slight annoyance. “Can't I catch a break for once? Must I handle everything?”
- But the moment he saw that it was the first landline phone ringing, his heart started pounding wildly.
- What!
- Whoosh!
- He shot to his feet in a panic, nearly toppling his chair over.
- “Commander Holmes!”
- “Commander Holmes!”
- Two guards hurried over, never having seen the man that anxious.
- Pierre's eyes were as wide as saucers, the look in them blank.
- At last... the phone rang! It's been almost five or six years now.
- He swiftly picked up the phone. Composing himself, he took a deep breath and asked, “Mr. Carrington?”
- On the other end of the phone, the sound of throat clearing drifted over. “Commander Holmes, it's me, Jasper Freeman.”
- Pierre was hit sudden realization, “So, it's you, Jasper.”
- He naturally knew that Divine Healer had a few attendants, one of whom was Jasper.
- “Jasper, was... was it Divine Healer who had you call?” Pierre asked.
- “Yes. Mr. Carrington has a favor to ask of you, Commander Holmes,” Jasper said softly.
- Overjoyed, Pierre quickly said, “Whatever Mr. Carrington needs, just say the word. I'll undoubtedly repay the kindness he showed me in the past!”
- After a moment of hesitation, Jasper decided to go into detail. “Mr. Carrington's wife was killed. Driven to the brink of rage, he took out a few accomplices in Quadfield. Now, he's being threatened and wanted for arrest by the authorities. Thus, he seeks your help to intervene on his behalf, Commander Holmes.”
- “What!” Shock inundated Pierre.
- Mr. Carrington's wife was killed? On top of that, he's being threatened?
- In an instant, a chill spread through his entire body.
- Who's the daredevil who had lost his mind to lay a finger on Divine Healer's wife?
- “Jasper, please tell Divine Healer to rest easy. I'll handle this matter immediately. Also, where is Divine Healer now? I'll lead a team of men over by private plane. I'll definitely find the culprit and bring him to justice to avenge Divine Healer!” Pierre said urgently.
- However, Jasper replied, “No, it's okay. Mr. Carrington wishes to take revenge personally.”
- “A-All right, then,” Pierre relented, a hint of unease lingering within him.
- Soon, both the men hung up.
- Cold sweat dotted Pierre's forehead.
- Divine Healer is high and mighty, but he's seeking revenge personally? He must be in a towering rage, huh? He... He's likely to turn the whole of Quadfield upside down. Just how many more people are going to die?
- He didn't dare tarry, quickly picking up the phone and made a call to Quadfield City Hall.
- Beep! Beep! Beep!
- In no time, the call was connected.
- “Hello! Is that you, Quincy?” Pierre asked in a deep voice.
- Upon hearing his voice, the other person was scared out of his wits, exclaiming in surprise, “C-Commander Holmes, why did you call me personally?”
- “You b*stard! Tell me, is there a man named Huxley Carrington or Dwayne Carrington being wanted for arrest?” Pierre demanded, pounding the table in anger.
- “I didn't expect this matter to have reached your ears!” the other party exclaimed in shock. “Rest assured that we will apprehend this individual as soon as possible.”
- Fuming, Pierre cursed, “You absolute nincompoop! Immediately revoke the arrest warrant on that person. You are not to investigate him or interfere in his matters any further. Do you understand?”
- “Huh?” The other person was taken aback. “But... he killed a few people.”
- “Even if he killed a dozen people, it's not your place to intervene, let alone a few! Even I don't have the authority to do so! Besides, he wouldn't kill without reason. Those he's slain were certainly no saints, so he's ridding you of trouble!” Pierre stated sternly.
- What?
- The other person's heart promptly clenched, and his body started trembling.
- He's a person even Commander Holmes dared not mess with? Who on earth is he? Could he be a scion of a prominent family from Jacaster?
- “Do you understand!” Pierre scolded.
- “Yes, yes! I'll revoke the warrant immediately. Actually... I didn't want to issue it so rashly, but the Yeager family's butler threatened me. Please implore Mr. Carrington for mercy on my behalf and tell him not to misunderstand me,” the other party said timidly.
- Pierre was livid. “The butler of the Yeager family? How is he that he dares to mess with Mr. Carrington? Dig into him for me. I shall see how we can deal with him!”
- “Yes, yes!” The other party trembled with fear.
