• After leaving his room, I returned to Andrea's room, unable to contain the smile on my face at realizing she was awake. Alison and Austin were seated by her side when I walked into the room, trying to cheer her up. Her eyes found mine, the usual spark in them now replaced by a pool of sadness. I rounded her hospital bed and kissed her head, gently rubbing her hands.
