Chapter 7

  • Marcel’s POV
  • “Hell no, no fucking way,” I said and walked away from the altar.
  • “Beckham!! Marcel!! Mr Henderson!!” I heard my name being called by different people but refused to stop.
  • “What is wrong with you?” Father asked as he grabbed my hand.
  • “I can’t accept this marriage. We have been fucking deceived. Karisa isn’t the one at the altar; it is someone else.” I glared at Inaya with anger and disgust.
  • “Mr Valentino, what is going on?” Father asked Mr Valentino.
  • “Excuse me,” I got into my car and drove back home at the highest speed beating every traffic light.
  • When I got home, I stayed in the car for a few hours thinking of why the brides were switched before I came down. I stayed back to control my emotions, I didn’t want to break down in front of Grandma or my Akira.
  • “Marcel, is everything okay?” Grandma asked when I entered the house and her voice made me emotional. I expected she would be sleeping by now. Why was she awake ?
  • “Grandma…” I hugged her tightly, “Something went wrong.”
  • “Marcel, are you okay? What’s going on?” Grandma asked anxiously as she patted my back slowly, “Why are you being emotional?”
  • “I…. I…. Have made a huge mistake,” I tried not to break down, “I made a huge mistake.
  • Grandma pulled away, “Talk to me, what mistake did you make?”
  • “I…. I…. Got married to the person I shouldn’t have gotten married to,” I didn’t even know how to explain it to her.
  • “Why did you leave like that?” I heard Father’s voice from behind me.
  • “How did you handle it?” I questioned Father and Mother audibly.
  • “Inaya will move to your own house tomorrow,” That wasn’t the answer I was expecting.
  • “Father!!” I yelled, “They deceived us.”
  • “It doesn’t matter if it’s the older or the younger daughter you get married to as long as you marry into the Valentino family,” I stared at Father in disbelief. “Don’t you need a Mother for Akira? The younger daughter will be a good Mother.”
  • Inaya a good Mother? I scoffed mentally.
  • “Father….” Those were the only words that managed to come out of my mouth.
  • “Are you worried about the age gap?” Mother looked at me with concern, “I know it’s much, but you both are already married.”
  • “Age gap?” Nelson asked.
  • “Auntie, what’s the age gap?” Zac added.
  • “It’s an eleven-year age gap,” Mother answered, and I scoffed mentally.
  • “Eleven? How do you expect me to live with a mad immature brat?!!” I yelled furiously.
  • “Why do you speak like you already know her?” Nelson muttered, “Have you met her before?” He suddenly yelled.
  • “She…. She is that girl…. That student who made me a laughing stock…. She is that rude girl,” I bit my mouth, stopping me from laughing, “She is that student who has vowed to make my life miserable.”
  • “Inaya?” Mother asked and I nodded my head, “Oh almighty,” Mother’s voice held guilt.
  • “Do you understand why I can’t do it? I can’t accept the marriage,” My voice was vulnerable, “Please.”
  • “It’s already too late for that,” Father spoke with authority, “Karisa ran away from the altar, and the younger daughter only helped her Family. I already told her to move in tomorrow, so there is nothing we can do.”
  • “You know the reason why I agreed to get married again,” My body began to shake with anger, “Since you knew the reason, then you should have told them that the wedding was void!!”
  • “Marcel,” Grandma called softly, “Let her move in, just give it a few months, and there will be reasons for divorce, then you will be free.”
  • “You don’t understand, those few months are going to be the most miserable part of my life,” I could already feel it, “I can’t even trust someone like that with my daughter.”
  • “I will move in with the three of you,” Grandma said, “I will take care of Akira.”
  • I shook my head, “Grandma, you don’t have to do that, there are already staff at my house and I will just get a live-in nanny for my Akira.”
  • “Accept Mother’s offer,” Mother said softly, “Just give us some time and we will make sure to end the marriage.”
  • “I will personally end this marriage after the elections are over,” Father sighed as he patted me gently on the shoulder, “Your old man gives you his words.”
  • From Father’s tone, something was definitely up, his wanting this alliance from the start, his agreeing to bring any bride home as long as it was from that family, and his waiting till after the elections, when we don’t even need their help with it, means something was definitely up.
  • “Sure, I will wait till after the elections,” I nodded my head halfheartedly, “Have the workers move Grandma, Akira, and my belongings to the car, the security will drive them home.”
  • The election wasn’t near, it was a year from now, how was I supposed to put up with that girl for a year? I was definitely losing my mind.
  • “You can set up rules for both of you,” Mother sweetly suggested. I felt bad when I saw guilt in her eyes.
  • I chuckled loudly, “Oh my sweet Mother, thanks for the suggestion, I will definitely do that.”
  • “Now she is your wife, what will you do about the disciplinary hearing?” Zac asked when the mood in the room became lighter.
  • “Do you have to spoil the mood?” Nelson nudged Zac, and Zac yelped.
  • “I just wanted to know,” Zac said to Nelson.
  • “Yes, the disciplinary hearing will take place and she will be punished for whatever she did,” I answered Zachary’s curious question.
