• EMMA’S POV
• I stepped out of the cab with a soft hum, my heart feeling lighter than it had in days. Visiting Mama always had that effect on me. Even though she was still under treatment, just seeing her smile and hold my hand like everything was going to be okay... it made me believe it too.
• I clutched the small paper bag of pastries I got from a street vendor and made my way up the short steps to Damon’s mansion. No matter how many times I walked through those massive doors, I never got used to the feeling of being in his space. It was both nerve-wracking and oddly comforting.
