Chapter 5 A New Beginning
- I looked at my paycheck and remembered last year when I bought an ice cream that cost eighty-four cents. Larry scolded me for wasting money, and I cried bitterly out of frustration. Larry often teased me, saying I cried because I was greedy for ice cream.
- For thirteen years, every time I had to ask Larry for money, I felt worthless, as though my life had no meaning. But now, for the first time, I had earned money with my own hands.
- I treated myself to a buffet and ate plenty of ice cream.
