- The sun dipped low in the sky as the car hummed softly beneath me, the city streets blurring past. My mind buzzed with unspoken thoughts, the sting of my earlier encounter with Mara still fresh. But there was no time to dwell on the past. I needed to focus on the present, on building the life Laila deserved. The Laila of this world, rich as she was, lived as though she had nothing—a sparse wardrobe, no fine jewelry, and not even the simple indulgence of a stylish bag. That was about to change.
