Chapter 23 Chapter Twenty-three
- Crono arrived at the manor house with Palas still unconscious. He got out of the carriage, walked to the guest room and gently settled her on the bed. As he tried to sit up, he saw Palas respond by weakly taking his hand.
- "Don't abandon me, Crono. I'm afraid of what's going to happen to me now. You have your companion, whom you promised to reject for our love, and now you're married to her," he began to cry, "It would have been better if I had died that night. I can't take any more suffering. Seeing that you're now with another she-wolf who isn't me, tears my heart out."
- Crono felt the weight of Palas' words, a lump forming in his throat as he saw the pain in her eyes. He tried to comfort her by gently stroking her face.
