Chapter 7 : Children's Edition

  • The little girl in my memory often wore a cotton linen dress. When she saw me, a sweet smile would bloom on her face, and she would call me "big brother" in a clear voice.
  • Subconsciously softening his expression, Huo Ciyi stared at the TV for a while before decisively pressing the intercom button. His voice carried a barely noticeable urgency as he said, "Find out which theater is performing a children's play today!"
  • The assistant who had just left the house was a bit puzzled, but still followed his instructions.
  • Huo Ciyi raced to the East District Theater, watching the crowd already dispersing. Unable to control his frustration, he fiercely pounded the steering wheel.
  • "Beep—"
  • The piercing sound of the car horn startled the driver behind Huo Ciyi, who couldn't help but stick half of his body out and curse, "Hey, are you crazy? Go home if you're insane..."
  • Huo Ciyi coldly turned his head and glared at the man. The man's voice instantly lowered, and he timidly retracted his head, muttering under his breath.
  • After parking the car, Huo Ciyi stepped out with his long legs. However, he suddenly laughed self-deprecatingly, as if he didn't understand his own sudden actions. Just as he was about to return to the car, he felt a gentle touch on his pants leg.
  • Huo Ciyi lowered his head, and his amber pupils suddenly contracted. The child in front of him was slightly larger than what he had seen on TV, but that familiar little face, like a miniature version of himself, made Huo Ciyi certain that he couldn't be mistaken!
  • "Little friend, do you need something?" Huo Ciyi's voice softened as he tried to understand what the child was saying. "Where are the adults in your family?"
  • Dongdong furrowed his brows, looking at Huo Ciyi who suddenly appeared in front of him. He seemed very distressed about how to speak, and after a while, he said, "Mom, parking, you, blocking..."
  • Although Dongdong's words were stuttered, for some reason, Huo Ciyi miraculously understood what Dongdong meant. He gently stroked Dongdong's little head and said, "You mean your mom asked you to wait here while she went to park the car, and she'll come to pick you up later, right?"
  • Dongdong's eyes lit up, looking at Huo Ciyi with surprise. Suddenly, he grinned—a smile bloomed on his round and fair face, and the shallow dimple at the corner of his lips carried a hint of childishness, making people unable to resist the urge to hold the little guy in their arms and cherish him.
  • "I like you," Dongdong hesitated for a moment before speaking. This was the first person, besides his mom, who not only didn't dislike his way of speaking but also understood what he meant. So Dongdong didn't hold back his liking for Huo Ciyi.
  • Huo Ciyi's eyebrows curved with a hint of childlike praise. He rubbed Dongdong's head and thought for a moment before taking out a gold-stamped postcard from his pocket. "This is... Uncle's phone number. If you like Uncle, you can call him, okay?" After speaking, Huo Ciyi drove away from that spot.
  • Dongdong held the card in his small hand, watching Huo Ciyi's car disappear into the distance. He continued to stare until Jiyou's voice came, "Dongdong? What are you looking at? Where's your brother?"
  • "Brother, restroom." Dongdong withdrew his gaze and ran to Jiyou's car with his short legs.
  • Yes, he had lied just now.
  • Jiyou didn't ask him to wait there at all. Instead, she had arranged for him and his brother to be in the KFC downstairs from the East District Theater...
  • The long honk of Huo Ciyi's car horn not only startled the driver behind him but also caught Dongdong's attention, who was sitting in his seat.
  • When Huo Ciyi got out of the car, Dongdong couldn't take his eyes off him—his face was like an enlarged version of himself. Subconsciously, Dongdong ran out...
  • Jiyou didn't pay much attention to what Dongdong said. She got out of the car, picked up Dongdong, closed the car door, and then turned to go into KFC to find his brother.
  • Across the street, Huo Ciyi watched as Jiyou skillfully picked up Dongdong and put him in the car before leaving. He narrowed his eyes, a trace of curiosity flashing in them—could it be her?
