Chapter 23 Don't Be Sure

• “You really think I’d let you go back there alone after what we saw?” Callan’s voice was sharp, yet beneath it—concern trembled. He paced just a step behind Lily as they made their way to the carriage waiting by the edge of the dense forest.
• Lily didn’t slow her stride. “Callan, I’m not helpless. I’ve handled worse things before.”
• “That’s not the point and you know it.” He caught her wrist gently, forcing her to stop. “There was something wrong back there. That black energy—it didn’t just hurt that rogue. It almost felt like it was… alive.”
