Chapter 6 Breaking The Contract

• The elevator doors chimed behind me, threatening to slide shut against my shoulder, but Phai didn't move an inch. She stood rooted in the doorway of the dark foyer, her shadow tall and menacing against the warm LED floor strips of the penthouse.
• "Out of my way, Phai," I said, my voice dangerously steady.
• "Make me," she replied, her voice dropping into a register so low and gravelly it sent a cold prickle straight down my spine.
