Chapter 3
- Madison's Pov:
- It was past three in the morning after our latest round in the shower. We spent the whole night awake, with Maxwell constantly finding his way back between my legs, swearing up and down it would be the last time.
- I matched his crazy energy every single step. We could not get enough of each other, and for the first time, I knew I made the right choice sending him that letter.
- I lay on the bed completely naked, my legs still parted wide. My core throbbed, swollen and sore, but the craving refused to die down. My skin was covered in red blotches and sharp teeth marks.
- He acted like an absolute wild beast behind closed doors.
- Maxwell stood a few feet from the bed, casually tapping away on his phone. My brows pulled together in a frown.
- I always remembered him having a black phone, but the phone in his hand was bright blue. Curiosity got the better of me.
- "Did you get a new phone?" The words slipped out in a dry, raspy whisper, my throat raw from hours of heavy breathing.
- He finally lifted his head, tearing his gaze away from the screen. "Not really," he muttered, giving his head a quick shake.
- My frown deepened. That felt off, but I decided to let it slide. I refused to ruin this moment by turning into a detective and grilling him with questions.
- He tossed the phone onto the side table and crawled back onto the bed. Reaching for my knees, he forced them together.
- "Keep going like this and you are going to forget how to walk," he murmured, a husky chuckle rumbling in his chest before he collapsed beside me. "Come here."
- He pulled me close to his warm body. I let out a happy sigh and rested my head on his wide chest, slowly drawing circles on his skin with my fingers.
- He gently stroked my hair, and I started to fall asleep. A sleepy smile spread across my face. For the first time in my life, I genuinely felt loved by the guy I wanted most.
- Around five in the morning, I shifted restlessly. The movement instantly woke him. The second I turned away from his chest, he mimicked the motion, resting his heavy head right over my heart.
- His hand slid down to cup my nipple, and I tangled my fingers deep into his damp hair. Wrapped like that, we drifted back into a deep sleep.
- **********
- It was already morning, and sunlight shone through the window. I slowly opened my eyes to see those deep blue eyes staring right at me. A warm, lazy smile touched my lips.
- He propped himself up, his grip tightening around the back of my neck as he tried to reel me in. I instinctively pulled my face back, giggling behind my palm.
- "Not now Maxwell, I have not even brushed my teeth yet," I mumbled through a sleepy laugh, ducking my head away from his reach.
- His fingers squeezed hard against my skin. When I glanced back up at him, the playful warmth in his eyes was completely gone. His face was locked in a dark, furious scowl.
- "What did you just call me?" The question dropped flat into the quiet room, carrying a terrifying chill that made my stomach turn.
- I looked confused.
- "Maxwell," I breathed out, my voice trembling slightly at the sudden shift in his mood. His hand fell away from my neck.
- I pushed myself up into a sitting position to look at him properly. "What is wrong with you?" My hand reached out, fingers trembling as I tried to cup his cheek. He caught my wrist mid-air just before it reached his face.
- "Why are you calling my brother's name while you are lying in bed with me?" His voice sounded like grinding stones, sending fear straight down my spine.
- ~~Wait, what does he mean by brother?~~ I asked myself. It felt as if the entire room tilted on its axis while that word kept ringing in my head like a 6:00 AM alarm.
- My eyes darted toward his ear. If he were Maxwell, he wouldn't have any piercings, which was usually the only way I could tell them apart. But as I looked closer, I saw an empty piercing hole, confirming I was with the wrong Jackson brother.
- "Miller?" I gasped out, my voice cracking into a high, panicked squeak. "Oh my God."
- I yanked the duvet up to my chin, clutching the fabric desperately to hide my nakedness. I scrambled backward in a frantic panic, feeling like the mattress was on fire.
- I fell off the bed and hit the hard floor with a loud thud.
- Miller lunged forward instantly, his face twisting with worry as he reached down to help. But pure adrenaline took over. I sprang to my feet, my hands shaking so violently I could barely coordinate my fingers.
- I grabbed my scattered clothes off the floor. I quickly pulled on the dress I set aside the previous day, completely abandoning the silly cat costume.
- "Please, I swear this was a total mistake," I cried out, my chest heaving as hot tears of humiliation stung the back of my eyes. My voice wobbled and broke.
- "How can you call something that had you begging for more, a mistake?" He gritted his teeth, disbelief dripping from every word.
- "Look, this is a massive misunderstanding. I do not even know how you got that letter. It was meant for Maxwell, not you." I stumbled over my words, chest tight and breathing fast.
- I watched him go dead silent. He just stared at me, his eyes bloodshot and watery, looking close to tears.
- Once I managed to zip the dress, I dived back down to snatch his trousers off the floor, digging into the pocket to pull out the room key.
- "I am so, so, so sorry," I begged frantically, pressing my palms together in a desperate plea, my voice trembling with panic. "Let us just pretend this was a one-night stand, okay? We can still be friends." I forced a stiff, agonizingly fake smile onto my face, but Miller just glared at me.
- A burning, murderous rage flashed in his eyes.
- "Friends," he spat out the word like poison, pushing himself up from the bed. He took a slow step toward me, and I instantly backed away, putting as much distance between us as possible. "I do not like the sound of that at all."
- "Please, Miller, do not make this harder than it already is. I want your brother, not you." My voice hardened out of sheer desperation. "Goodbye."
- I turned and bolted out the door. My skin burned as if my entire body was caught on fire. I could not even begin to process the nightmare I just lived through. Facing him ever again was out of the question.
- I ran out to the street, flagged down the first empty taxi I
- saw, and told the driver to take me straight to Angel's house instead of going home.
