Chapter 8 Reconciliation

  • Wayne Lowe was the offline ticket seller for this concert.
  • Yesterday, two big spenders purchased nearly six thousand tickets combined. Even though the ticket prices had already dropped to a hundred each, Wayne still made a substantial commission.
  • Originally, his plan was to take off after finishing this job as he didn't want to get hassled by those two troublemakers.
  • Unexpectedly, when he woke up this morning, positive news about Joshua had already swept through the entire internet.
  • Wayne was so filled with regret that he almost tore his house down!
  • According to the current ticket prices, how much commission had he missed out on?
  • He was the fool!
  • Wayne was wearing a mournful expression because all the tickets assigned to him had been sold out.
  • Just then, a familiar voice unexpectedly echoed through the air.
  • Without thinking, Wayne looked up.
  • Wait, aren't they the fools from yesterday?
  • They made him miss out on so much commission, and now they were shamelessly scalping tickets here. It was just too much.
  • “Security! Security!”
  • Joshua's appeal was truly terrifying. After what happened yesterday, there were far more people buying tickets offline than he had imagined.
  • Moreover, many had specifically traveled from other states and cities. This was because they couldn't secure tickets online and didn't want to miss this opportunity. So, they decided to try their luck at the physical ticket office.
  • Maverick and Howard, along with others, soon found themselves completely surrounded. Once people confirmed the tickets were genuine, even if the price was two thousand, they were still snatched up eagerly.
  • Howard had been worried before that he wouldn't be able to sell them, especially since the normal price was one thousand each.
  • Now, it seemed he had worried too much.
  • When security came to drive Maverick and the others away, almost six thousand tickets had already been sold out.
  • Some kept asking persistently, which made Wayne's eyes almost pop out in anger.
  • Leaving the crowded stadium, Maverick took in a breath of fresh air. He then checked his digital wallet balance and bank card messages. The total combined was one million nine hundred forty thousand.
  • Even though Maverick had already anticipated it, seeing the actual figure made him involuntarily swallow hard.
  • He had never seen this much money in his life. Most importantly, he had earned it easily.
  • Even when he started his business, the money borrowed from both sets of parents and relatives totaled only one hundred and sixty thousand.
  • He didn't borrow eight hundred twenty thousand from Howard all at once but rather accumulated over time.
  • So this time, Maverick managed to make more than one point nine million with an investment of less than one hundred grand. The overwhelming success left him with an urge to let out a triumphant roar.
  • Normally, when people suddenly become rich overnight, they would first think about going on a spending spree.
  • Designer clothes, luxury watches, high-end handbags, luxury cars...
  • Maverick felt the same way!
  • But when he thought about his debts and the prices of those branded items, he forced himself to calm down.
  • A single wristwatch could cost hundreds of thousands, while a car could set one back by millions. As for houses, they were beyond expensive. In Bloudence, they could easily cost tens of thousands or even hundreds of thousands per square meter.
  • The money Maverick had could barely afford a small apartment of a few dozen square meters.
  • This amount of money is still too little. If I want to provide a good life for Josephine and Sasha, I must continue to work hard! Maverick suppressed his excitement.
  • Being able to foresee the future, Maverick wasn't worried about making money. It just needed time.
  • Footsteps approached from behind. It was Howard, his face slick with sweat.
  • “Where are those people?” Maverick asked with a smile.
  • “They're all gone.”
  • Howard took a seat, handing Maverick a bottle of mineral water. His excitement was palpable.
  • “Haven't you given them any tips?” Maverick teased.
  • “Yes. Everyone got seven thousand, seven hundred, and seventy-seven.”
  • “So stingy! After earning millions, you can't even round it up for them.” Maverick scoffed.
  • “It's not about rounding up or not. The key the good luck the number implies!”
  • Howard glanced at Maverick, subtly saying, “Think about it, if I gave them all the money, what if they borrowed my luck and also met someone like you, Mave?”
  • Maverick shook his head with a chuckle, finding the flattery too blatant for his taste.
  • “Mave, you're incredible! I'm seriously tempted to bow down to you.”
  • Howard continued, “If I had listened to you earlier, I wouldn't have earned just ten million now but forty million.”
  • “You can only get up to ten thousand tickets offline. Even if you bought them all, there's no way you could make forty million. At most, you'd make twenty million,” Maverick responded.
  • “That's still good!” Howard let out a sigh.
  • “Give me your account number. I'll repay the money I owe you, interest and all. After that, we'll be even,” Maverick said.
  • “Forget it!”
  • Howard suddenly sprang, “Maverick, are you looking down on me or what? To be honest, I already feel guilty that you're willing to put our past differences aside and help me make money. Do you really need me to kneel down before you to be satisfied?”
  • With a wry smile, Maverick said, “Howard, paying back a debt is only fair. The reason I decided to collaborate with you was because of the help you've extended to me in the past—”
  • “That's enough!”
  • Before Maverick could finish, Howard interrupted, “If you really want to settle our accounts, then give me back the eight hundred and twenty thousand, and I'll give you back the money I earned. From now on, we'll go our separate ways, as if we've never met!”
  • “Can you bear to part with the money?” Maverick teased.
  • “What good would reluctance do? I may not be a good person, but I do not forget kindness and betray trust once my goals are achieved!” Howard declared righteously.
  • In fact, based on Maverick's tips regarding Oceanic Network's incident and acting as a ticket scalper, Howard had already discerned that Maverick was no ordinary individual.
  • In Howard's impression, the previous Maverick was completely hopeless, a worthless scum at the bottom of society!
  • He genuinely looked down on people like this.
  • But now, Maverick seemed like a completely different person. Gone were the days of his lack of ambition and self-destruction. Instead, he was filled with vitality, much like a rising star slowly ascending to its peak.
  • Howard had a strong intuition that as long as he followed Maverick, the current ten million he earned would probably be peanuts!
  • “Mave, from today onward, you're my buddy. I don't want you to pay me back not because I want you to owe me a favor. It's just that...”
  • At this point, Howard let out a sly chuckle, appearing rather smug.
  • “All I hope for is that you'll continue to be my lucky charm in the future.”
  • “Okay. Thanks, then.”
  • Insisting further would only make Maverick appear pretentious, so he gladly accepted.
  • Compared to the money he had helped Howard earn, those several hundred thousand was nothing.
  • Seeing Maverick's agreement, Howard also breathed a sigh of relief.
  • This proved that Maverick was willing to continue to help him.
  • “Oh, right.”
  • Maverick seemed to remember something and said, “I've divorced Josephine. She might come to you to repay the money. You know what to do, right?”
  • “Divorced?”
  • Howard clicked his tongue in disbelief. “Mave, as someone who's been through it, let me give you some advice on this. I've investigated your ex-wife before. She's probably one of a kind in the whole world. You can't let her down!”
  • “Divorce is the end, but remarriage is the beginning. This time, I will give her the best life!”
  • Maverick looked into the distance. One couldn't tell if he were speaking to Howard or murmuring to himself.
  • After chatting for a while, Maverick finally returned to his condominium.
  • Tomorrow was Saturday, the end of August, so Josephine would most probably be resting.
  • With the money earned this time, Maverick planned to buy some things and visit Sasha.
  • It had only been a few days since they last saw each other, but for Maverick, it felt like a lifetime.
