Chapter 3 Who Asked You To Come

  • Jennifer looked at the two figures going far away from her line of sight. She was left alone in the big villa.
  • She took a bath, watered the flowers, read the books and passed the time. She tried to act as if nothing had happened.
  • Except for deceiving herself, she seemed to have no other choice.
  • Around 6 PM.
  • Her phone kept ringing. Jennifer stared blankly at the table with food that she had cooked personally for a long time before picking up the phone.
  • “Jennifer, what are you doing?”
  • Her good friend’s anxious and angry voice came from the other end of the phone, “Has George Arnoult’s wife changed? For such an urgent matter like working with Gray Family, the person who is attending the party with George is Carol?”
  • “That slut climbed on your head and you didn’t even react! Are you dead?”
  • Jennifer remained silent. Only after a long while did she manage to find her voice, “Sophia…”
  • “The party starts at 7.30.”
  • Sophia quickly said, “I’ll send you the address, change your clothes immediately!”
  • Jennifer paused, “I’m not coming over…”
  • “Aren’t you coming?”
  • Sophia was so angry that she wanted to vomit blood, “Do you know what I want to do the most right now?”
  • Jennifer did not speak.
  • Sophia said, “I want to split your head to see how much water has entered!”
  • “Sophia.” Jennifer said in a low voice, “It’s fine…”
  • “Still not coming?”
  • Sophia was so angry that she laughed instead, “Then I’ll go and splash that slut a cup of wine right now. I won’t be the only one to die from anger.”
  • Beep - - Beep - - Beep - -
  • The call ended.
  • “Sophia!”
  • Jennifer called again but the other party refused to answer.
  • She looked at the untouched dishes on the table, quickly changed into a set of a long skirt, and went to the address Sophia sent her.
  • Golden Age Hotel, 18th Floor.
  • “I’m sorry, Miss.”
  • The security guard stopped her, “This is a business party. You can’t enter without an invitation.”
  • Jennifer had not been to the company for a long time, so the ones who had not known her looked at her strangely.
  • It was as if they were looking at some woman who wanted to sneak into a banquet to climb high.
  • It was true that Jennifer had the ability to back up with her looks. Her exquisite facial features were bright and charming, and she wore a long black dress that revealed her fair and beautiful legs. There seemed to be traces of her faintly discernible under the lace on her shoulders.
  • It’s really hard to stop thinking about it.
  • “I am…”
  • Jennifer paused for a moment. George didn’t like her calling herself Mrs. Arnoult on any occasions, even if they were husband and wife.
  • “I’m sorry, but you don’t have an invitation card. Please leave as soon as possible!”
  • “I am Jennifer Thomson.”
  • “No, sorry. You are not allowed to go it.” The Security guard refused.
  • “Director Thomson…”
  • A man called for her. Jennifer turned around and her expression froze.
  • Just as George’s assistant, Joyce, reached the door, he saw this scene. He immediately felt a little awkward.
  • “Please follow me.” Joyce said as he led the way.
  • Jennifer nodded.
  • As Joyce walked, he said, “I’m truly sorry, Director Thomson, I did not manage to arrange everything.”
  • He didn’t think that Jennifer would come. Even since the Thomson and Arnoult Groups merged into one, most of the matters were handled by George. In the beginning, Jennifer would show up at the company every few days.
  • But as the saying goes there was no room for two tigers in the same mountain, so Jennifer took the initiative to leave the company.
  • For the past two years, the company had basically forgotten that a boss named “Jennifer Thomson” had even existed.
  • “It’s not your fault.” Jennifer’s lips curved up into a smile. She was no longer used to such occasions. Besides her were well-dressed men and women with delicate makeup weaved through the crowd, chatting happily.
  • Even if he was in the middle of the crowd, the first one Jennifer would look for was George.
  • The corner of the man’s mouth curled up into a smile. He was chatting with the people beside him, and his usually cold expression became a bit more gentle and refined.
  • He did not look like that when Jennifer was around.
  • Jennifer watched from afar, afraid that everything would change once she got closer.
  • “Director Thomson, Should I bring you there?” Joyce saw all this happen. Suddenly, he felt that this woman was a bit pitiful.
  • It was unknown when the man next to Carol suddenly leaned in and whispered something with her. They looked intimate and ambiguous.
  • Jennifer looked at them silently. She felt like someone forcefully cut a part of her heart with a dagger. That pain was so intense that she could not catch her breath.
  • Turning her head, she saw Sophia carrying a glass of red wine, walking quickly through the crowd, straight towards the crowd.
  • ‘Splash the slut with a glass of wine…’
  • Sophia was a type of person, who would do what she said.
  • Jennifer frowned and also walked towards the two people.
  • “Sophia.” She shouted.
  • Unfortunately, she was a step late.
  • The wine in Sophia’s glass had already been spilled, and just then, Carol turned her body to the side to avoid it.
  • The glass of red wine was poured all over the translator beside her.
  • Instantly, the entire audience went silent.
  • Sophia was startled, then quickly responded. “Who hit me just now? I am really sorry.”
  • Seeing the scene, George’s face darkened, “Jack, go and change your clothes first.”
  • “But he’s about to go on the stage.” Carol looked as if she was about to cry. “There is no time to change now.”
  • The Gray family specialized in overseas markets. Most of them were English and French. Some of them were Spanish. They didn’t understand Chinese at all.
  • “Give me the information.”
  • “Give me the information.”
  • Jennifer and George said in unison.
  • Hearing the voice, the man looked at her with eyes as cold and thin as the night sky. “Who asked you to come?”
