Chapter 137

  • EVOLET Is this some kind of joke?! Why is she saying such a thing to me? Knowing how my mom can be sometimes, I busted into laughter and said, patting her cheek gently, “Very funny, Mom. I can see through your game. You want to test and see if I’ll break down, huh? Don’t worry, I won’t.” I chuckled. But still… “Evolet!” Mom grabbed my hands, startling me with her tone. “This is not a game! I’m serious. I never gave birth to you, child. We aren’t related.” “What?” I gasped, feeling my whole body shaking. Mother sighed with her head lowering down. That’s when she said, sharing the whole story, “It all began during the war. We were hiding away in our house when Cadell came with Luna Violet, seeking for our help.” I stared at her, listening quietly. But amidst all these, I could hear my heart pounding seriously. “The Luna was in a terrible state. She was bleeding seriously from the chest, and Cadell needed our help away from Chriselda and Thelma. So, we allowed him in,” She said, looking sad. Mom went on narrating how Cadell had the whole house in complete darkness to hide Violet’s aura from spreading out. “The only thing that gave our home light was the Luna. Her veins glowed in the dark, showing how terrible her pain was. She was struggling to stay alive, but it was hurtful. The sight of her struggle didn’t only make your father and I sad, it killed Cadell every minute,” Mom shared, getting teary. “He tried to find a way out for her, but he failed. He was no match for her strength,” She sniffed, wiping the tears from the side of her eyes. My own eyes were welling with tears already. I could picture my Cadell and the pains in his eyes. “Right in Cadell’s arms, Luna Violet died,” Mom added, making my heart skitter. The most painful experience ever. Having the one you love pass away right before your eyes is terrible. Mom went through the same phase. “Goddess,” I uttered sadly, slowly wrapping my arms across my chest. That’s when Mom said with a smile, leaving me surprised, “But a miracle took place that day. After Violet gave up, her body suddenly glowed, and shifted into a beautiful white pup.” “A pup? You mean…” “The Queen never died, Eve. She was reborn,” Mom explained. I was astonished! But that wasn’t all. There was more. “That precious pup became a beautiful baby girl, who became a part of my world. And that child was you, Evolet. You… you are Violet,” Mom revealed, smiling at me. Me on the other hand… I was blown away! “Luna Violet?” I stared into Mom’s eyes in shock, feeling my heart beating faster than before. I wanted this to be a dream or even a prank, but Mom’s eyes said it all. Her smiles, the tears… Goddess, this… this is too much. Suddenly, we heard the sound of something cracking. When Mom and I looked down at my necklace, we saw two of the beads had a crack. “You have learnt how to hold by your emotions. You are stronger than ever,” Mom said, lifting my face up to her view. I couldn’t speak. Even my lips were trembling. Mom smiled at me and said, caressing my cheek, “My beautiful Evolet. Cadell made the right choice by giving you that name. It is a sign of who you are. Violet.” “Cadell named me?” I gasped, mesmerized by this shocking revelation! All these years I thought my parents gave me that rare name because of the love they have me, but it was Cadell all along! Evolet, Violet… It’s the same meaning! My Pervy wolf gave me the same identity, but in a different way. I’m… I’m his Violet! “I’m Luna Violet? That means… Oh Crap!” My body shivered again. I heard another crack on my necklace, which made Mom worried. “Evolet, relax,” She comforted me by taking my hands and caressing them. “Just breath in.” “If I’m the late Queen, that means Wolf Fall belongs to me! I’m a Luna!” I panicked, still overwhelmed by this news. “Evolet!” Mom held me close and managed to calm me down. When I felt a bit relieved, I asked, looking at my necklace, “Is that why I don’t remember anything? The necklace around my name was meant to…” “To protect you,” Mom completed, stroking my hair. “It was important for us to seal your identity until the right time. If I had told you this earlier, who knows the kind of steps you would have taken to endanger your life. You were craving to be Alpha Allen’s Luna, and I didn’t want you losing your life for the second time,” She said, petting me dearly. “But now, you’re stronger and smarter than ever,” Mom added. She’s right. Back then I was desperate to take us out of the poverty we where in, and straight into the life of royalty. What if I had learnt the truth then? Chriselda and Thelma would have easily wiped me out. “I am Violet,” I repeated, holding on to the necklace around my neck. The beads that has kept me hidden for years, all thanks to Cadell. “My pervy wolf. Now I understand why he kept laughing at me when I frowned about his past with the Queen.” I laughed at myself, slowly switching to tears. I’m still in shock. Just then, Mom said, lifting me off her body, “It’s time, my dear.” “Time?” I asked, looking at her face. But Mom wasn’t looking at me. She was staring at the entrance of the living room. When I turned over, I saw Cadell there, gazing back at me. Now I understood that word perfectly well. It made my heart skip, as I wondered what would happen next. “Go and meet him, dear. Tonight, all your questions would be answered,” She said with a smile. I stared back at Mom and felt hurt. She never gave birth to me, meaning she never got to experience that feeling of bearing a child into this world. Oh heavens! Now it makes more sense. Her harsh behavior and treatments. She was struggling real hard to cope with everything. “Please forgive me for taking away your life. I took your chance of having a better life again,” I apologized with guilt. But Mom laughed, pulling me close for an embrace, saying, “You are a silly girl. You never took anything from me, my child. You made me the proud mother of the greatest Luna ever. I am so lucky to have you, Eve.” “Mom.” I broke into tears and squeezed her tight. “Come now, dear,” she said, pulling me off the couch, and leading me to Cadell. Each step we made towards him, made my body tremble. I no longer felt like myself but a different person. Mom brought me to Cadell and carefully placed my hand in his, saying, “Please take care of her.” “You can trust me on that,” He promised, giving me a soft smile which touched me deeply in the heart. I gave Mom one last look and saw how sad she was when she waved at me. It felt like she was saying… goodbye.
