Chapter 1
- When I was about to get intimate with my husband, I suddenly noticed a lot of scratches on his back.
- He touched the scars, unconcerned, saying, "Chloe was drugged with an aphrodisiac, I just helped her detox."
- "She's like a sister to me, we grew up together, there's nothing going on."
- "Don't worry, honey, I was just helping her detox, there's nothing between us!"
- I couldn't believe it. After two years of marriage, he always stopped at just kissing, claiming to have serious psychological issues, and only having a platonic relationship with me. And now he was openly helping his female friend... detox.
- "Do you still want to try, honey? I believe I can overcome my psychological barriers for you!"
- Seeing his determined look, I coldly laughed.
- "I don't have that ability, just call your bestie to help you!"
- "Evelyn, what are you saying? There's nothing between Chloe and me, I was just saving her life!"
- "What are you doing in the middle of the night?"
- Liam Carter immediately pulled up his half-pulled pants and looked at me incredulously.
- The same person who just said he would overcome his psychological barriers for me was now pulling up his pants faster than flipping a book.
- He went to great lengths to put on this show in front of me, just to absolve himself and Chloe of their affair.
- Watching his actions, I couldn't help but laugh out loud, "Am I wrong? Having a psychological barrier but still able to help someone detox, you're really generous."
- Liam impatiently spoke up, "How can you be so petty? Chloe will die if she doesn't detox. As a doctor, can't you understand the basic principle of saving lives?!"
- Saving lives?
- His words suddenly triggered my memory.
- Chloe Summers was the only girl in their circle.
- She loved thrills and challenges.
- On the day Liam and I got married, she was street racing. When it was time to exchange rings, she made a phone call and had Liam's group of friends leave, leaving me awkwardly waiting at the altar.
- In the end, she only suffered minor injuries.
- Afterwards, she apologized with an innocent look, "Sorry, Evelyn, I thought I was about to die and wanted to see them one last time. I didn't mean to interrupt your wedding."
- Her cutesy tone made me feel nauseous, but out of consideration for Liam, I had to swallow my pride.
- I know that even if I express unhappiness, Liam always has a reason to excuse her.
- My dignity has been worn away countless times in Liam's favoritism.
- Thinking about this, a dense pain crawls up my heart again. It's ridiculous that he has psychological barriers only towards his own wife.
- Seeing me silent, Liam finally realized that something was wrong with my emotions.
- He gently kissed my hair falling down and said in a very gentle tone, "Darling, don't be angry. The doctor said my illness needs to be taken slowly. Can we have a little more time together?"
- He was like a different person from before.
- I pushed him away and said calmly, "No need, let's get a divorce. Spend more time with your Chloe, she can help you with your illness."
- "Evelyn, what are you doing? I told you it was just to save someone!"
- Before I could argue, the phone on the bedside table rang.
- I didn't even need to look at the caller ID; no one would call at this hour except her.
- Liam almost instinctively picked up the phone, afraid of missing every second.
- "Liam, I feel terrible, can you come and help me..."
- The voice on the other end was neither loud nor soft, but I could hear it clearly.
- I sneered, not needing to look at Liam's expression to know that his worry and concern were overflowing on his face at this moment.
- He wished he could fly to her side immediately.
- I watched quietly.
- "Liam, I think I'm dying..."
