Chapter 27

  • It had been two weeks since the last time I had seen him, and that was when we argued about Ethan, who by the way followed me closely every step of the way except when I was with Allie, according to him, under Christian's orders. Laurie, his second in command, informed me that Mr. Bornout had gone on a trip to Saudi Arabia to conclude some pending business and couldn't even notify me. So when I saw him walk in with a beard and slightly longer hair than usual without even greeting either of us, a knot formed in my throat. I took a deep breath trying to shake off that feeling of pain and continued organizing the schedule to make up for the two lost weeks, ignoring his arrival.
  • "Cassie, clear my schedule," he ordered authoritatively, leaving the office with some folders in hand. "Eryn, come with me."
  • I looked at Cass confused, but she just picked up the phone to start canceling everything that was supposed to happen today while I grabbed my jacket and bag to start following him, hurrying and entering the elevator with him without even looking at him. As we descended to the ground floor, when the doors opened, he walked out without saying a word to me as I followed a few steps behind until we stepped out into the heat of Los Angeles where a van was waiting. I noticed Ethan approaching as well when I got into the van followed by Christian.
