Chapter 11 Lisa's Suicide

  • Winnie wore a high-necked sweater to the office, but when she went to the restroom to touch up her makeup, her nails accidentally caught the collar, revealing what was underneath.
  • Susan couldn't help but laugh mischievously and leaned in, teasing her, "Miss Thompson, what happened to your neck? Did a mosquito bite you? Wait, it's winter. There are no mosquitoes around."
  • Winnie blushed from being teased.
  • "I got bitten by a dog," she raised her head to examine the marks, frowning in anger.
  • Jonathan was like a rabid dog last night
  • "Your dog is quite fierce," Susan continued teasing.
  • Winnie nudged her with her elbow, "Stop it."
  • While the two were talking, they suddenly overheard two female colleagues in the adjacent restroom conversing through the partition. The voices were not loud, but it was quiet inside, and Winnie and Susan could hear clearly.
  • One of them said, "Do you know why Mr. Foster didn't come to the office today? He's usually the first one here, and Miss Quinn hasn't come either."
  • The other asked, "Now that you mention it, it's true. What happened?"
  • The first colleague said, "I heard that Miss Quinn committed suicide at home last night."
  • Winnie was stunned and turned to look at Susan, who was also shocked and shook her head, indicating that she didn't know either.
  • The other colleague answered, "D*mn! Is it true? No way, she was perfectly fine yesterday."
  • The first colleague answered, "Of course it's true. I heard that Mr. Foster stayed outside the emergency room all night without sleep. That's why he didn't come to the office today."
  • Susan didn't expect the news to be so explosive and hurriedly looked at Winnie.
  • Winnie was wiping her hands with a tissue. Because her head was lowered, Susan couldn't see her expression clearly.
  • But no matter what, when the wife hears about her husband and the mistress' affair, her mood must be devastated. Susan thought that was the case and wanted the two annoying gossips in the restroom to shut up.
  • She deliberately coughed heavily in their direction a few times.
  • Unexpectedly, the two gossipers were too engrossed in their conversation and completely ignored her.
  • The first colleague said, "What do you think her reaction would be if she found out?"
  • They're talking about Winnie, aren't they?
  • Susan thought, Reaction? She's going to react by slapping you two first.
  • The other colleague said, "What reaction can she have? Besides, is her reaction important? Mr. Foster doesn't love her, so he doesn't care about her feelings. She, well, she should be leaving the company soon."
  • Will you stop talking?
  • Susan couldn't help but want to go up and beat the two of them. Just as she was about to take action, Winnie calmly said, "Let's go; there's a meeting later."
  • "Oh."
  • Susan could only silently follow along, but in her heart, she cursed Jonathan and Lisa fiercely. Winnie had been working hard for the Fosters for so many years, but what had she gained in return? How could they bully her like this?
  • Just because she is alone, without parents to support her? That's just inhumane!
  • Disgusting!
  • Compared to Susan's indignation, Winnie was much calmer.
  • Honestly, when she first heard about Lisa's suicide, she was shocked. She didn't expect this woman to be so ruthless, willing to give up her own life for love.
  • She knew she couldn't do the same.
  • She owed her life to her parents, and unless she didn't want to live anymore, no one could become a reason for her to sacrifice her life.
  • But she quickly understood that Lisa's act was nothing more than a means to force Jonathan to make a choice, provoked by what happened last night. It was effective but also insane.
  • However, it was clear that Jonathan fell for it.
  • Jonathan didn't come to the office for the next three days, nor did he return home...
