She lifted her eyes to Carl, her gaze resolute yet weighted beyond measure, and spoke slowly, word by word, each syllable seeming to be squeezed from the depths of her heart: "The person we went to the Netherworld to look for—the one who left no trace at all—was my master from my previous life."
