Chapter 2
- At the entrance of the City Hall, the dim streetlights cast a long shadow of my silhouette.
- A black Rolls-Royce pulled in by the roadside.
- The door opened, and a man rolled out of the car in a wheelchair. He was dressed in a sharp suit, with a handsome face but a slightly pale complexion.
- Even sitting in a wheelchair, he couldn't hide his noble and aloof aura.
- This was Edward Carnegie.
- The former pride of the city, the heir of the Carnegie Company.
- He was also the archenemy who had been suppressed by Charles, had fallen from grace, and publicly regarded as "useless".
- He wheeled himself over to me.
- "Have you thought it through?"
- His voice was low, yet it carried a soothing power.
- I nodded, my eyes determined.
- "I've never been more sure of anything."
- He smirked slightly and reached out his hand to me.
- "Well then, let's have a pleasant cooperation, Miss Morgan."
- I placed my hand in his palm, "Pleasant indeed, Mr. Carnegie."
- Without saying another word, we walked straight into the City Hall. Fifteen minutes later, we walked out with a brand-new marriage certificate in our hands.
- From today on, I was Edward Carnegie's wife.
- Charles, I am your archenemy's wife.
- I wonder what expression will be on your face when you see this marriage certificate with your "lost memory"?
- I really look forward to it.
- When Edward and I returned to the mansion, Charles and Margaret were cuddling together on the sofa.
- Upon hearing the door open, Charles impatiently raised his head. When he saw me, a hint of disgust flashed in his eyes, and he sneered, "What are you back for? Did you forget something, or are you here to beg me to take you back?"
- Seeing Edward Carnegie behind me, Margaret was first stunned, then burst into a harsh laughter, "Oh, Elizabeth, isn't this the cripple from the Carnegie family?"
- "So, you've found yourself a new home so quickly?"
- Charles also looked at Edward, his eyes filled with disdain, "Elizabeth, your taste is still so poor."
- I ignored their mockery and spoke calmly.
- "I came back to get my things."
- After that, I placed the marriage certificate in my hand on the coffee table in front of them, "Also, just to let you know, I'm married."
- The brand-new marriage certificate was like a flame, burning their eyes.
- The calm on Charles's face finally cracked, and he suddenly stood up, grabbing the marriage certificate. When he saw my name and Edward Carnegie's name, his amnesiac facade instantly broke down.
- "Elizabeth!"
- He growled low, veins popping on his forehead, with uncontrollable rage in his eyes, "How dare you!"
- The Oscar-winning amnesiac act couldn't go on.
- I looked at his furious expression, feeling a surge of vengeance in my heart.
- "Mr. Astor, watch your words."
- I took Edward's arm, raised my head, and stared directly at him.
- "I am now Mrs. Carnegie, not someone you can shout at."
- "You!"
- Charles was shaking with anger, and even the hand pointing at me was trembling.
- He never expected that I, who had always been obedient to him and loved him dearly, would marry another man within an hour of being abandoned by him!
- And this man was the one he despised the most, Edward, who was also disabled!
- This was a great humiliation for him.
- Seeing Charles lose control, I felt a sense of revenge surging within me.
- Charles's anger was almost setting the entire living room on fire.
- He glared at me fiercely, as if he wanted to devour me alive. "Elizabeth, you are truly despicable!"
- "To get back at me, you actually found a disabled man!" He added.
- "Are you that desperate?"
- Margaret immediately chimed in with a malicious tone, "Exactly, a woman who has been played by our Charles to death, paired with a cripple who can't even stand up, you two really are a perfect match!"
- She looked Edward up and down, her disdainful gaze undisguised. "Edward, you are pitiful too, only able to pick up other people's trash."
- They echoed each other, joining forces to subject us to the worst kind of personal humiliation.
- I was about to rush up and tear their mouths apart, but Edward gently patted my hand, signaling me to stay calm.
- He raised his head, calmly meeting their contemptuous gazes. "Mr. Charles, having regrets now?"
- He spoke softly, but there was a sense of oppression that came with his words.
- Charles and Margaret were momentarily silenced by his cold demeanor.
