Chapter 2
- Marked As Theirs
- Chapter 2
- Veronica's POV
- He was tall and…breathtaking.
- His hair was blonde and messy, as if he had just run a hand through it. “What’s with everyone hating neatly styled hair?” I thought. Not that I liked either anyway.
- And ooh, his presence…was commanding.
- ”He's an Alpha, after all,” I concluded, coming back to reality.
- Wait. He dropped me.
- The awe turned into anger.
- I pushed myself up, my cheeks burning, and clenched my jaw.
- He tilted his head. “Who are you?”
- His voice was deep and carried an authority that sent a shiver down my achy spine.
- He continued not waiting for my response (not that I was going to answer him, anyway), “You ran into me.”
- I blinked.
- What?
- I had just hit the floor because of him, and he was acting like I was the problem?
- I swallowed the retort bubbling in my throat. This was Alpha Adnam. If there was one thing Uncle Liam had hammered into my head, it was that respecting an Alpha is a must.
- So, instead, I lowered my gaze slightly, clenching my fists at my sides. “I wasn’t watching where I was going.”
- He lifted his brows like he hadn’t expected me to admit that.
- Then he turned away.
- “Are you okay?” A female voice asked, and I turned to see a girl with ginger curls and striking blue-green eyes looking at me with concern.
- She glared at Adnam's retreating figure. “Unbelievable. You’d think an Alpha would have better manners.”
- I bit the inside of my cheek, unsure of how to respond to her. I wasn't really big into friends…courtesy of how my parents brought us up.
- She extended a hand. “I’m Taylor.”
- I hesitated for a second before taking it. “Veronica”.
- She smiled. “Well, Veronica, you just met the biggest arsehole in this school.”
- I laughed, but my pulse was still racing.

- The classroom was already filling up. I scanned the room for an empty seat.
- Then I saw him.
- Adnam.
- A guy was talking to him in the back, but it looked like he wasn't paying attention because his eyes skimmed over the students as if he owned them.
- In a way, he probably did, to some extent.
- I quickly looked away and followed Taylor, who was heading to her seat.
- Unfortunately, the only available seat was in front of him.
- I pressed my lips together. Great.
- Taylor whispered as she sat on the seat next to mine. “Chill. You won't have to look at him.”
- The teacher walked and called the class to order. “As most of you have probably noticed, we have a new student.”
- I stiffened as every eye in the room turned toward me.
- “Introduce yourself.”
- I swallowed and rose to my feet. ‘Just my name and my pack.’
- “I’m Veronica Sebastian, from the Northland Pack.”
- “The Northlands? Seth's?” someone whispered at my front.
- “Girl, I told you she came with Seth and Beau.”
- I ignored them and sat back down. The teacher continued, and the class went on.
- *************************************************
- I had spent my classes super aware of his presence behind me. He didn't say a word to me, but that didn't stop my senses from being on high alert.
- “What the hell is wrong with me?” I groaned.
- “Veronica, are you okay?” Seth asked, looking me up and down.
- I raised a brow. “Why wouldn’t I be?”
- He leaned closer and inhaled before his face crunched up. “You smell like him.”
- I blinked, taken aback. “What?”
- “Alpha Adnam”, he answered. “It’s not strong, but I can perceive it.”
- “Ah ah. I bumped into him this morning.”
- Seth had an enhanced sense of smell—a generational gift among the Northlands. He could pick up even the faintest scent, no matter how much time had passed.
- “I’m fine,” I said, taking a bite of my sandwich.
- “Are you sure?” His voice is serious. “Because I know how you get when—”
- “I’m fine, Seth,” I repeated firmly.
- Beau appeared beside him and set his tray down. “Man, I swear Coach is trying to kill us.”
- Seth didn't reply. He was still watching me.
- “Seth, drop it.”
- He sighed. “Alright. But if anything happens, you tell me.”
- “This is going to be an interesting semester,” Taylor muttered under her breath.
- I wasn’t sure I agreed.
- The rest of the day passed away faster than I wished. Every time someone mentioned Adnam, my ears shot up.
- I blamed it on the fact that I had literally fallen into him.
- Not because he was an Alpha. Or because his presence demanded attention.
- Definitely not because of that.
- I sighed and shut my locker as Taylor leaned against the one beside it.
- “Are you heading home now?” she asked.
- I shook my head. “I need to stop by the library first. I don’t have the History textbook.”
- “Oh, good,” Taylor said, straightening. “I was going to offer to come with you, but I already suffered through History last year.”
- I chuckled. “I’ll be fine.”
- “See you tomorrow, Northland.”
- I watched her walk off before turning toward the library. For the first time since morning, I felt like I could breathe.
- I made my way down the shelves and searched for the right one.
- I heard a sigh, and my head raced with thoughts. ‘Is someone here with me?’
- I dismissed it and continued searching. I heard a rustle this time, and I followed the sound.
- I froze at the sight before me.
- Adnam was leaning over someone…a girl.
- Cecilia Whitlock?
- I didn’t know her personally, but I had heard about her—admiration, or was it envy?
- His girlfriend has been with him since childhood. She was a hybrid from the Southland Pack. The kind of girl who looked perfect beside an Alpha, blah blah.
- And right now, she was definitely beside him.
- She moaned as his lips moved to her jaw, and a strange feeling settled in my stomach.
- It was damn uncomfortable. I wasn’t sure why I felt that way.
- It wasn’t jealousy.
- I had no reason to care who Adnam kissed.
- But I did.
