Chapter 9 Utter Shock

  • As soon as the few of them arrived inside the living room of Sommer Gardens, they saw a disheveled-looking Lucille slumped to the ground. Her clothes were in a mess as she wept with her head kept low.
  • Right beside her was a man kneeling with his upper body exposed and visible scratch marks all over his broad back.
  • It was clear that the two had just enjoyed a passionate moment together.
  • More importantly, everyone could easily recognize the man as the groom tomorrow—Zack.
  • Such a sight sent the crowd into utter shock.
  • “What the hell were the both of you up to?”
  • The first one to break the silence was Zack's father, Quentin.
  • The man's expression darkened as soon as he had realized what was happening, and his body trembled with rage.
  • Although Quentin had a reserved personality, he had been very strict toward Zack. Despite that, never had he ever been this overcome by fury.
  • Despite not being able to see his father's face, Zack immediately began to shudder as soon he heard the former's stern voice, and a chill ran down his spine. He was at a loss all of a sudden.
  • Perhaps due to how appalling the scene was, no one seemed to notice that there were other people in the living room.
  • Just as Quentin was about to unleash his wrath, the man seated on the couch stood up and walked toward them. “Hello, Quentin and Yvonne.”
  • “Jonathan? When did you get here?” Yvonne asked in astonishment as embarrassment flashed in her eyes.
  • The fewer people know about something this humiliating, the better. But of all people, Jonathan had to see this! You're such a disappointment, Zack!
  • Yvonne felt her head throbbing from frustration.
  • Aware of how awkward Yvonne must be feeling, Jonathan turned away from Michaela and glanced at Zack. “At the worst possible time, it seems. But I believe it's time you taught Zack a lesson,” he remarked in his deep voice.
  • Quentin's father, Eric, was the younger brother of Jonathan's father, Nick, making Quentin and Jonathan cousins. Quentin had lost his parents in a plane crash while sitting for his university entrance exam, so Nick took him in after that, treating Quentin as his own child.
  • That was why Quentin always held Nick in high esteem. Even Yvonne treated Jonathan's parents with the utmost respect.
  • At present, Yvonne's expression stiffened as she heard Jonathan's words. “What's going on, Jonathan?” she asked in puzzlement.
  • “My dad isn't well enough to attend Zack's wedding, so he asked me to come by and see if there's anything I can help out with. But I heard some unusual noises as soon as I got here and thought the house had been broken into, so I told Walter to use force if he had to. I just never saw this coming...”
  • The man spoke softly, but he sounded composed and firm.
  • He also deliberately left out his last few words to avoid humiliating both families further.
  • On the other hand, Walter's mouth twitched as he stood next to Jonathan, hearing the latter lie through his teeth.
  • Are you sure you came over to help, Sir? Didn't you come over to ruin the wedding?
  • Broken into, you say?
  • What kind of thief would make so much noise while breaking into a house? You may have never gotten laid before, but haven't you at least heard of how it works? What's a grown man like you acting all innocent for?
  • Besides, you were the one who came over to enjoy the show after hearing about this, yet here you are playing dumb!
  • A flurry of thoughts erupted in Walter's mind, although he could never say them out loud. Still, he had to admit that his boss had a knack for acting. It's a shame he didn't choose to become an actor!
