• The silence of the night was broken by the sound of the front door opening. I stirred, my eyes fluttering open to find Xavier standing in the entrance, his gaze locked onto me. I had fallen asleep on the couch, determined to be the first thing he saw when he returned.
• Xavier’s expression seemed to soften as he took in the sight of me. He nodded to his Lorenzo and Mateo, and they exited the living area, leaving us alone.
