Chapter 4

  • Everything is blank. Swimming in the dark until she reaches the other side. There’s a beautiful woman looking outside the window. She has an unfocused gaze, you would think she is enjoying the scenery. But in reality, her eyes are empty.
  • ‘Why is she sad?’ she thinks. The room is dark. On her right, you can see a crib, lonely in the corner. The woman starts sobbing as she looks at the baby that’s inside. She holds her head, looks like she is mourning.
  • The baby starts moving in the crib, shaking, crying so loud. She covers her eyes. "Pl-please...stop!" she is saying sobbing.
  • ‘How did this all turn out so bad?’.
  • Leona wants to help but as she tries to speak, no sound comes out. The walls start trembling as the cry of the child intensifies. The woman turns around and looks at Leona.
  • Her eyes are illuminating hate.
  • ‘I thought she couldn’t see me’ Leona thinks shivering.
  • “YOU! You have to protect him!” says while showing the baby.
  • “Do whatever it takes to protect him!” and with these last words she opens her eyes.
  • Master Yien is filled with relief, “You are awake”.
  • The screams of the people couldn’t be heard. There’s the silence and there’s the ring in the ears that is left. People are lying down, some lost consciousness. Being closer to the light caused the more damage.
  • That means Jet had it worse. Not many people were left unaffected. The Emperor is gazing down to see what will appear from the dust that was covering what was there a minute ago.
  • Ren knew, it was true, that warrior transformed into a real dragon. His father saw it. The dust started clearing and there she is, lying on the ground. The Grandmaster cautionaly rushes in the Arena.
  • Ten warriors follow him and raise their spears aiming at her. The Grandmaster raises his hand to stop them. He points at Jet who is lying on the ground without moving. “Go check him”. They all follow his order to see if he is still alive.
  • He is now closer to her and falls on his knees to reach her.
  • “Wow, you have so much Magma...so much that you don’t know what to do with it”.
  • (Magma=the word used to define a dragon warrior’s energy).
  • He slowly reaches for her arm to turn her facing up. His iris widen.
  • “I see.. you are…” and he stops as he hears Master Yien’s steps coming closer.
  • Yien is afraid, ‘what if…’.
  • “Come warrior, help me take him inside. He used a lot of energy but no need of concern, he will survive”, and as saying that he grabs her and places her on the hands of her Master.
  • Yien is concerned, biting his lip, wondering, hoping she is fine. He can sense her Magma, it’s disturbed.
  • The Grandmaster looks at the Emperor and he nods at him. The warriors have already grabbed Jet confirming he is alive, but barely.
  • He then grabs her hand raising it to the air saying, “Please welcome the last winner of the Game, Leon!”.
  • Yien looks at him with a surprised face, not believing what just happened, as he has forgotten about it after all this. The crowd, start screaming and shouting “LEON”.
  • ‘Have they forgotten that they almost died a minute ago?’ he thinks bewildered.
  • He moves as the gates open, holding Leona tight in his hands, whispering to her “hold on”, taking her to the healers.
  • They rush inside and the palace gates close behind them. A maid runs towards Yien shaking her hand to follow her. They are climbing the stairs and all you can hear is the sound of their feet. “Hurry up, put him in here!” she says while opening a door on the right.
  • Yien takes a step in and looks around. It’s a room used for the dragon warriors. He slowly places her on the bed. He puts his hands on each side of her head and closes his eyes to sense her Magma. He dives in a pool of uneasiness and scattered memories.
  • ‘It’s too strong’. He lets a scream out and falls into the ground. The Grandmaster appears and helps him up.
  • “His Magma is too strong. You can’t heal him like that. We will take care of him”.
  • Yien holds his head as a migraine kicked in. Two maids smoothly grab him and take him outside. The Grandmaster places his hands on Leona’s head. With his spirit, he settles her Magma making it smooth and stable.
  • Leona let’s out a groan as she is finally peaceful. The Grandmaster, that has been holding his breath, lets out a sigh and just stares at her. After a minute he tell the maids to leave, except one.
  • “Ms. Xialing, take care of our new dragon. He needs to be washed by the Fountain of Wishes, dressed in white robe and properly rest. I live it up to you”, and with that he moves quickly out of the room.
  • As she undresses her, she notices the sculpture of her body.
  • ‘That’s a female body’, she thinks in terror. She lets out a sound and grabs her mouth with both hands.
  • ‘What should I do?’.  She looks around and cold sweat is coming down her temples. She gulps down and continues following the instructions left by the Grandmaster.
  • On the other hand, Yien is waiting outside holding his head, trying to wrap his mind around of what happened. He remembers a time when he was young and was training by his Master. It was noon and it was the time of teaching about the various forms of the dragon.
  • The kids were sitting down in a shrine in the middle of the forest while Master Don was explaining the usual fighting techniques. “Fire wave”, “Fireball”, “The kick of the dragon”, and other names were given that day with demonstration.
  • Then he started explaining the powers that come with intense training of mind and body. These were techniques that only Masters and dragon warriors would try and only a few would succeed. One that was briefly given was “The Light”.
  • He didn’t say much as not anyone alive was using this technique. Was ancient and powerful, but tricky and could easily get out of control. It required uncorrupted spirit so the body could withstand the power. Lighting would come out of the warrior’s eyes and burst, killing and purifying. But no one knew how you could learn such power, thus it was forgotten.
  • Back to present time, Yien realizes that Leona’s identity was at stake. He starts banging the door of her room, trying to get it. Xialing opens the door and she is clearly annoyed.
  • “I have to get inside!” He shouts at her.
  • “No, you can’t. I have specific instructions and you are no longer the warrior’s Master” she tries to make him buzz off.
  • “Yes but--” she interrupts him by closing the door on his face.
  • She moves next to Leona, not sure what to do with her. She wakes up for a second and grabs Xialing’s hand.
  • “Please don’t tell anyone” she mumbles. Xialing is still in shock.
  • “They will kill me. Please” she continues begging.
  • Xialing nods at her, realising that she doesn’t wanna hurt her.
  • ‘One of us blessed to be a warrior’ she thinks.
  • “Alright, I won’t tell. Can you move? I need to give you a bath” she says with a gentle voice. Leona nods and slowly stands up.
  • She realizes she is half naked and tries to cover up.
  • “Don’t worry, no one will see you. The bath is this way” and Xialing leads her to it.
  • Leona slowly enters inside, feeling the tingling of the water. Xialing is washing her gracefully.
  • “Thank you” Leona shows her gratitude.
  • “What’s your name?” she asks.
  • “My name is Xialing. I’ll be the maid that will take care of you from now on”.
  • As warriors are chosen and go through their training, they stay in the palace. Then, a maid is picked for each warrior to take care of them, and only this maid will be allowed. This is an honor for a maid.
  • “Thank you! Can you tell me what happened?” Leona asks as she doesn’t remember much.
  • “Well, you were fighting and there was a light. It is said it came from you”.
  • Leona is bewildered, ‘a light?’.
  • “What? How?” she asks.
  • “I can’t answer that. I’m sure the Grandmaster can give you that detail”.
  • “Okay. Did I.. did I lose?” she asks hesitantly. Xialing giggles.
  • “No. You won! You are a dragon warrior!”.
