Chapter 6 Compensation For Lost Youth

  • The group of hooligans were about to make their move.
  • However, in the next moment, about a dozen burly men dressed in matching suits suddenly burst out of the hotel.
  • These individuals were all security personnel Herbonix Pharmaceuticals' security department.
  • Each one was a veteran soldier, emanating an intimidating aura.
  • The group of hooligans were undoubtedly taken aback.
  • Initially full of arrogance, they were beaten into a state of disarray by a group of veteran soldiers.
  • By then, Jonathan had already turned pale.
  • Yuliana, Ivanna, and Quincy were thoroughly intimidated by the situation at hand.
  • “Driving a beat-up BMW, and you're trying to show off to me?” Stellan landed a punch that sent Jonathan sprawling onto the ground. He then turned to the security guards and commanded, “Smash it for me.”
  • As soon as the words were uttered, the group of burly men grabbed the fire extinguishers from their security room and started to smash away brutally.
  • In an instant, the brand-new BMW was smashed to smithereens, with smoke billowing from the hood.
  • Jonathan's heart broke as he watched on.
  • He had just bought this car and was so eager to show off that he drove it out before even getting it insured.
  • With gritted teeth, he declared, “Just wait! I won't let you off the hook!”
  • Stellan scoffed and responded, “I'm Stellan from the Xenos family, and this is my sister, Seraphina. I'll reimburse you for your damaged car at its full value. If you've got the nerve, come and collect it from my place.”
  • What? Upon hearing Stellan introduce himself, Yuliana and the others couldn't help but draw a sharp breath.
  • Jonathan was utterly despondent.
  • The Xenos family was a prominent family in Nusridge. Even with ten times the courage, he wouldn't dare take money from them.
  • He knew he had messed with the wrong people and could only blame his own loose tongue.
  • Yuliana looked at Seraphina in surprise, then turned to the calm and composed Adler, feeling bewildered. Why on earth would the distinguished heiress of the Xenos family be chasing after Adler? Why did she still show him such respect?
  • Ivanna's legs turned to jelly when she recalled that she had just referred to the heiress of the Xenos family as a prostitute.
  • “I'm sorry, Mr. Xenos... My eyes have failed me... I was being ignorant. Please, Mr. Xenos, don't lower yourself to our level,” Ivanna hurriedly pleaded for mercy with a flattering tone.
  • Jonathan had also knelt down.
  • The swagger he exhibited earlier was replaced by an equal measure of distress.
  • “Every time I see you, I'll punch you. Buzz off, all of you!” Stellan scolded furiously, and in his lingering resentment, he kicked Jonathan.
  • Jonathan and his family were relieved, and they didn't even dare touch the smashed BMW. Instead, they left in disgrace.
  • Adler couldn't help but admire that the intimidation brought about by one's status and position sometimes proved more effective than violence.
  • At this point, Adler found himself viewing Stellan in a much more favorable light. Well, evil begets evil. Stellan, the rich and spoiled brat, seems particularly adept at dealing with scoundrels like Jonathan.
  • Seraphina managed to calm her inner fury, a faint smile gracing her stunning yet icy visage. “Mr. Quintrell, here's your money.”
  • Adler accepted the paper bag, having forgotten to take it with him in his haste earlier.
  • After a moment of hesitation, Stellan gritted his teeth. “Mr. Quintrell, I was ignorant, and I've offended you. You may do as you wish with me. However, please don't let this affect your intention of choosing a business partner.”
  • Adler actually found this guy to be not as bad as he seemed. He chuckled and said, “Don't worry, compared to Kinesis Group, I believe Herbonix Pharmaceuticals has a better reputation.”
  • Stellan immediately felt a weight lifted off his shoulders. “Thank you for your approval, Mr. Quintrell.”
  • Seraphina was beaming, and her beauty was intoxicating. She softly said, “Thank you again for what happened last night.”
  • “You've already thanked me.” Adler casually lifted the paper bag in his hand.
  • “Mr. Quintrell, you're certainly going to be very busy after this. Why don't you take my car first? Give it back to me when you no longer need it.” Seraphina wore a serene smile, her eyes curved like crescent moons.
  • With a casual smile, Adler discerned her thoughts.
  • Taking the keys to the Maybach, he drove off immediately.
  • Watching the Maybach fade into the distance, Seraphina smiled, a picture of contentment.
  • In reality, she had acted cunningly, having Adler drive her private car. This essentially served as a declaration to her peers, signifying that Adler's relationship with Herbonix Pharmaceuticals was anything but ordinary.
  • She thought this could significantly reduce competition.
  • Meanwhile, the Faraday family felt deeply humiliated by this unprecedented disgrace. The more they thought about it, the angrier they became.
  • Yuliana went straight to a lawyer to draft a divorce agreement that would leave Adler empty-handed.
  • Armed with the divorce agreement, the Faraday family headed straight to Adler's place and waited.
  • “Yules, if that loser refuses to sign the divorce papers, you should just ask Mr. Gossamer to take him down!” Ivanna said fiercely.
  • “All right, if Adler chooses to do things the hard way, I'll have to let Mr. Gossamer handle him. Coincidentally, he's coming to look for me later.” Yuliana nodded.
  • She was eager to get a divorce because she had become involved with a wealthy heir to a prestigious family.
  • Moreover, the two of them had been together for quite some time.
  • Evidently, Yuliana wasn't afraid at all of Adler finding out. Even if that loser found out, what could he do aside from swallowing his frustration?
  • Earlier, Adler had gone to purchase a phone for himself. However, as he hadn't brought his ID card, he couldn't replace his SIM card and had no choice but to return home first.
  • Adler had purchased a three-bedroom, two-living room house in Jadebrook Residences.
  • His relationship with Yuliana began because of this house.
  • At that moment, however, this place had become the center of resentment.
  • This apartment was purchased using the relocation payment his parents received from the demolition of their old family home.
  • Adler's fists tightened when he thought about his parents.
  • He originally hailed from the Townsend family, one of the Ten Prestigious Families in Clusia.
  • His father, Zayne Townsend, was the matrilocal son-in-law of the Townsend family.
  • However, he was exceptionally talented, devoting himself completely to the Townsend family.
  • He even helped the Townsend family rise to become one of the Ten Prestigious Families in Clusia, wielding immense power.
  • Yet, some would tend to get rid of somebody once they ceased to be useful.
  • Unexpectedly, the Townsend family, who had risen to be among the Ten Prestigious Families, completely ostracized and eradicated his mother's family.
  • With their lives on the line, his grandparents managed to enable Adler's parents to escape, taking him with them. They found refuge in a small county where they lived in hiding and eked out a meager existence.
  • Though his parents always emphasized that the most crucial thing was to stay alive, Adler knew deep down that they yearned to return to the Townsend family to seek justice.
  • In the past, Adler lacked the means and lived a life of mediocrity.
  • Having then awakened the legacy, he made a solemn vow. One day, he would return and overthrow the Townsend family, bringing his parents back home.
  • Upon returning home, he found the door surprisingly left open.
  • Yuliana, Jonathan, Quincy, and Ivanna were seated on the couch, their cold gazes fixed on Adler as he walked in.
  • Yuliana tossed the divorce papers onto the coffee table, her voice icy as she said, “Just sign it.”
  • Adler walked over and picked up the divorce agreement, scanning it thoroughly. He couldn't help but be consumed by rage. Incredibly, they want me to relinquish my property, give up my share of the compensation, and leave empty-handed! This is absolutely infuriating!
  • In a fit of rage, Adler tore the divorce agreement into shreds. “You're dreaming!”
  • Yuliana looked at him with full-faced disgust. “Do you think you're being assertive when you act like this? Your actions only make me feel sick to my stomach. I have no feelings for you. What's the point in you relentlessly pestering me like this?”
  • Immediately, anger surged within Adler. “Divorce is possible, but you'll be the one leaving empty-handed. I bought this house in full before we got married. The compensation is for my medical expenses. Why should I give you everything?”
  • Ivanna slammed the table and stood up, her voice filled with indignation. “Have you no conscience left, you beast? Had it not been for Yules sticking by your side after your paralysis, you would have been long gone. Shouldn't you compensate Yules for the years of youth she lost?”
  • At this point, Adler's anger surged, and he violently kicked the stool in front of him out of the way. “How dare you say you didn't abandon me? From the moment you sent me back to this house to the time you drove me out, did any of you even bother to visit me once? If it wasn't for Cressida constantly taking care of me here, you wouldn't even know if my body had decayed, would you?”
  • When that was mentioned, Adler was reminded of the kind and gentle woman who had devotedly cared for him during the year-long period of his paralysis.
  • Since Yuliana never returned home and hadn't contributed financially, Cressida had always taken care of him, both financially and physically.
  • “I must have been blind back then. We've spent a few tough years together, and in the end, you're actually asking me to leave empty-handed!” Yuliana bit her lip, glaring at Adler with eyes red from tears.
  • Whenever they used to argue in the past, Yuliana would always show this pitiful expression. Each time, it would inevitably lead to Adler taking a step back.
  • Hence, she resorted to her same old trick again.
  • However, this time, Adler merely observed with a detached gaze, his face full of indifference.
  • He always felt that it was indeed unfair for a stunning beauty like Yuliana to marry someone like him.
  • Therefore, he worked tirelessly to earn money, treating her with utmost care and affection.
  • However, that was the outcome he got.
  • At that moment, Adler no longer felt heartache, and he could never agree to those divorce terms.
  • “Yules, are you okay now?”
  • At that moment, a young man entered the house.
  • The man was over six feet tall, strikingly handsome and dashing.
  • Whether it was the Armani suit he wore or the Patek Philippe on his wrist, everything about him exuded wealth and luxury.
