Chapter 2 The Arrogant Rich And Spoiled Brat

  • Leaving the three young men behind, Adler drove the van toward Nusridge.
  • Because the highway here was temporarily closed, he had no choice but to take this mountain road.
  • As it was midnight at the time, there were barely any vehicles passing by on the road.
  • In his haste to return to Nusridge, Adler overlooked something important—the fuel gauge.
  • At this point, the fuel gauge on the Chevrolet van had already set off an alarm.
  • Moreover, he was penniless and didn't even have a cell phone.
  • As he continued driving for a while longer, Adler noticed two cars parked on the parking strip ahead.
  • Upon getting a bit closer, it was unmistakably a license plate from Nusridge.
  • Parking his car by the curb, Adler hopped out and jogged over to the Maybach with the Nusridge license plate.
  • The windows of the Maybach were rolled down, revealing a man and a woman seated inside.
  • The man leaned back contentedly on the car seat, taking a drag from his cigarette.
  • The woman was stunning, with bright eyes and a radiant smile. Her eyebrows were as delicate as willow leaves, and her eyes as luminous as the moon. Her lips, a vibrant red, were enticingly attractive. She could be described as breathtakingly beautiful.
  • The car was filled with a thick haze of smoke, causing the woman's delicate brows to furrow in discomfort. She continuously fanned the air with her hand, her frustration evident, yet she dared not voice her grievances.
  • Without any prior agreement, the two people in the car simultaneously turned their heads to look at Adler.
  • The man instantly sat upright, his eyes filled with caution.
  • Adler explained, “I ran out of gas. Are you guys heading back to Nusridge? If that's the case, could I possibly hitch a ride with you?”
  • The stunningly beautiful woman slightly furrowed her brows. “I'm sorry; we're not heading back at the moment.”
  • “When are you guys heading back? If it's not too much trouble, could you give me a lift? I'm penniless at the moment, and my car ran out of gas.”
  • Adler's tone was sincere, not hiding his embarrassment in the slightest.
  • The stunning woman appeared somewhat anxious, her annoyance evident as she snapped, “Are you deaf? I told you we're not heading back, so just get lost!”
  • Adler furrowed his brows, unable to comprehend why this woman was behaving in such a manner.
  • Regardless, he didn't want to get overly caught up with her either.
  • All he could do was to keep moving forward, hoping to cross paths with some kind-hearted individuals.
  • However, at that moment, the vehicle in front of the Maybach swiftly approached, and five individuals surrounded Adler.
  • Adler didn't want to cause any trouble. With a pleasant expression, he said, “If it's inconvenient, then never mind. I'll leave right away.”
  • The young man in the car blew out a puff of smoke toward the strikingly beautiful woman, causing her to start coughing.
  • Then, he finally lifted his gaze to look at Adler and said teasingly, “Thinking of leaving now, huh? Isn't that a bit naive of you?”
  • As the words fell, two burly men firmly gripped Adler's shoulders and arms, one on each side.
  • Furrowing his brows, Adler said as gently as he could, “I honestly just wanted to hitch a ride.”
  • Upon seeing the situation, the stunning woman angrily told the young man in the car, “You're only trying to keep me here, so there's no need to harm innocent people.”
  • The young man, however, scoffed as he replied, “So you're telling me, his car ran out of gas in the middle of the night, and he just happened to come over for a ride? What are the odds?”
  • Only then did Adler understand that the woman's attitude earlier was driven by her fear of getting him in danger.
  • This woman was indeed a beauty with a kind heart.
  • The young man wore an unimpressed expression as he said, “Cripple him and toss him in the trunk. We'll deal with him at dawn.”
  • He didn't care whether it was a coincidence or not.
  • It was the mindset of preferring to err on the side of caution.
  • As soon as the words fell, a burly man pulled out his club and swung it toward Adler's thigh.
  • The impact of this weapon was incredibly intense, capable of causing serious injuries to muscles and bones.
  • It was then that Adler truly understood the meaning of nice guys finishing last.
  • Why is it that when we're at our weakest, there always seem to be so many villains around? It's because the other party feels that the cost of picking on you is low. Therefore, there's no reason for me to hold back!
  • Seeing the club swinging toward him, Adler's gaze suddenly turned terrifyingly sharp.
  • He forcefully shrugged his left shoulder, flinging the burly man who had been holding on to him, to the front, using him as a human shield.
  • The club was swung with force, landing a harsh blow on the burly man's body.
  • “Argh!”
  • The burly man let out a chilling scream.
  • At the same time, Adler lifted his leg and kicked the burly man in the chest, sending him crashing into the man who was holding the club.
  • The two of them fell backward together, crashing heavily onto the Maybach.
  • A resounding crash echoed, and the sturdy Maybach shifted slightly to the side upon impact.
  • The men and women inside the car were jolted so violently that they were thrown into disarray.
  • “Pfft!”
  • The man who was kicked in the chest by Adler even spat out a mouthful of fresh blood, his face twisted in pain as he curled up.
  • Immediately after, Adler performed a shoulder throw, sending the other burly man soaring through the air, straight over the top of the Maybach. He landed hard against the mountain side.
  • The remaining two burly men had never witnessed such a fight before. They watched Adler, who fought like a God of War, with utter shock. Their faces turned pale with fear as they cautiously retreated.
  • The young man in the car was momentarily left speechless and wide-eyed.
  • However, he was used to being arrogant and domineering, so he naturally said, “If it's a misunderstanding, then I'll let it go. You can leave now.”
  • However, Adler shook his head. “Well, I don't want to leave now.”
  • Rich and spoiled brat like him have always carried an air of superiority, acting high and mighty as if he were the only one who mattered.
  • It seemed as though everyone was afraid to offend him and had to tread lightly around him.
  • The young man sitting in the car squinted his eyes and said with an air of arrogance, “You'd better think twice about this! There are matters beyond the reach of small fry like you! Be careful not to invite trouble that could cost you your life! Since you're heading to Nusridge, then you must know Kinesis Group of Nusridge. That belongs to my family!”
  • Adler paused for a moment.
  • Of course I've heard of Kinesis Group in Nusridge. That's among the top five pharmaceutical companies in Nusridge. Indeed, one could say he is from a wealthy and influential family.
  • Seeing that Adler seemed to be intimidated, the young man arrogantly added, “I am Maverick Fowler, the eldest son of the Fowler family. Do you really think your status is enough to go against my family?”
  • With a hint of impatience, Adler let out a cold huff and said, “You talk too much.”
  • What's done cannot be undone. Even if I were to back off and leave now, I don't think this rich and spoiled brat would let me off the hook.
  • He then strode to the other side of the Maybach, yanked the door open, and roughly hauled Maverick out of the car.
  • Having been yanked out forcefully, Maverick stumbled, practically tumbling out of the car.
  • Maverick stood up, shouting angrily, “Are you f*cking looking for trouble?”
  • Smack!
  • Yet, Adler simply raised his hand and slapped him across the cheek.
  • “You son of a—”
  • Smack!
  • After a series of hefty slaps, Maverick was left utterly dumbfounded!
  • Adler raised his hand, delivering a series of slaps as if he was releasing all the humiliation he had endured over the years.
  • A series of around ten slaps landed directly on Maverick's handsome face, causing it to split open and bleed profusely. Following this, he was kicked and sent flying five to six meters away.
  • Maverick fell to the ground with a heavy thud, instantly losing consciousness.
  • The woman, who could be described as being drop-dead gorgeous, sat in the car, wide-eyed and speechless as she stared at Adler.
  • Her cherry lips were agape, wide enough to fit an egg.
  • She could never have imagined that this seemingly disheveled man, who abruptly hitched a ride with her, would turn out to be so formidable.
  • He was just like the special forces soldiers one would see in movies.
  • Snapping back to reality, she quickly told Adler, “I'm Seraphina Xenos, the CEO of Herbonix Pharmaceuticals. We can now set off back to Nusridge. However, they've injured my driver. Could you help with the driving?”
  • Adler nodded. “All right.”
  • Seraphina, being quite understanding, continued, “You can leave your car here for now.”
  • “If anything happens to the car, I'll compensate you at its original price, and I'll also give you an extra payment for your trouble.”
  • Adler nodded, opening the driver's side door, only then did he notice a man wincing in pain in the passenger seat, his legs already broken.
  • In the car, after Seraphina's explanation, Adler finally understood the reason behind the situation.
  • Turns out, there was a highly important negotiation meeting in Nusridge that afternoon.
  • Herbonix Pharmaceuticals and Kinesis Group were arch-enemies.
  • To secure this collaboration project, Kinesis Group had intercepted Seraphina, who was on her way back from a business trip.
  • Maverick knew that the highway had been temporarily closed, so this road was the only route to Nusridge.
  • As long as she couldn't make it on time, the deal was essentially in the bag for Kinesis Group.
  • The sudden appearance of Adler naturally led Maverick to believe that he was sent by the Xenos family to search for Seraphina.
  • Even if he wasn't from the Xenos family, he was still afraid that Adler would call the police and complicate matters.
  • After traversing the mountainous road, Adler drove onto the highway, returning to Nusridge around eleven in the afternoon.
  • The driver, whose legs had been broken, was taken to the hospital for treatment.
  • Then, he drove off with Seraphina, heading toward Hillscester Grand Hotel.
  • Ultimately, they reached their destination around midnight.
  • At that moment, a group of people were anxiously waiting at the hotel's main entrance.
