• I came back from the office with a headache that had nothing to do with work.
• Sam had called three times. Each message shorter than the last. I didn’t answer. I already knew what he wanted—another pointless conversation about the branch project, another reminder that Father expected us to “present a united front.” I had nothing left to say to him. He knew I was useless in that house. So why keep summoning me?
