Chapter 6 – The Messenger

  • Serena
  • “What did the doctor say?” I asked when Clara came out of the doctor office. Her face pale as a ghost and tears threaten to fall. Clara hugged me and finally gave in to the tears.
  • She sobbed in my arms for a good five minute before I pulled us apart and asked her what happened. After a couple hiccups her eyes rolled back, and she fainted. Whatever the doctor told her must have been too overwhelming.
  • One of the nurse notices and come running with a wheelchair. She was wheel into a patient room and the doctor was called. After, they fiddle around a bit, I finally ask with concern.
  • “How come she fainted?” I asked the doctor as she tend to my friend. I was worried out of my mind for my friend.
  • “She faints due to the stress and malnourishment. This the first trimester so she must be feeling severe morning sickness.” My eye widened and I shot her a look of confusion. What first trimester? What morning sickness?
  • “I’m sorry you lost me. Can you elaborate?” I ask for clarification. I must look dumb as a rock for not understanding her.
  • “Your friend is pregnant. She easily got stressed and overwhelmed due to imbalance hormones. She should…” I black out after she said ‘pregnant.’ She continues to ramble about, but I cut her off.
  • “What!? How!?” I shouted and the doctor glared at me. She looks at me as if I were dumb for asking her how babies are made. She opens her mouth to explain, but I cut her off again.
  • “Never mind.” The doctor seemed to get it and turned her attention back to my friend.
  • “Anyway, as I was saying, she shouldn’t be overwhelmed or stress as it will result directly to the baby. Other than that, everything looks fine. Do you have any more questions for me?” I shake my head in return, unable to utter a single word.
  • Wow, Clara is pregnant. But she only did it once. How could she get pregnant? Wait, that mean she is pregnant with Aiden. That explain why she was crying earlier. Clara just turned twenty-two, she is not ready for a baby. Is he ready for the baby? Are they ready? My eyebrow furrowed as I tried to wrap my head around the news.
  • “Nana.” Clara finally stirred awake after a 2-hour nap. She looked exhausted, emotionally drained.
  • “How are you feeling?” I’m concern for my friend.
  • “Did the doctor tell you?” Clara had a look of concern, confusion, and fear. I nodded to her inquiry. Tears started trickling down her cheeks. I don’t know what to do to console her other than hold her hand and stay with her.
  • “What am I going to do? I’m not ready for the baby. This is a mistake. This is a stupid mistake.” She sobs and wrap her arm around my waist. My hand rubs her back gently to comfort her. She loves it when I do that. It helps calm her down.
  • “It ok. Calm down, everything will be ok. How about we discuss this with Aiden first? Like it or not he is the child father. Then we can take it from there.” I suggested. I don’t want her to make a decision that she will regret in the future.
  • If this is a mistake, then I was at fault too. It is my fault that I failed to protect my friend that night. We need to get the father opinion; I don’t have my hopes up though. For people like him sex is a game. They tend to shy away from responsibility when they make a mistake.
  • Clara was discharge from the hospital and we went back to our dorm. She ends up going to bed early and stay in bed for the rest of the night.
  • I woke up this morning to her gagging and vomiting in the bathroom. The morning sickness is getting worst since we found out she is pregnant.
  • “Clara are you ok?” I got up and knocked on the door, concerned. These past few days she didn’t eat much, and I was worry she might fall in the bathroom and hurt herself.
  • “I’m fine, it’s just the morning sickness. I will be out in a minute.” She answers from the other side.
  • I heard the faucet running before Clara came out, looking pale as a ghost. She seems to have lost weight as well. Since it takes two to make a baby, the father had to know about this.
  • Today, I plan to look for Aiden. He needs to take responsibility for his actions. If he decides to be a useless coward, then screw him. We don’t need him or anyone pity.
  • My car come to a stop in front of Aiden house. It the weekend and school are out so he must be at home. I was a bit confused. The curtains are down, but it doesn’t seem like anyone is home.
  • But there are three cars in the driveway. One of them belong to Anderson. I had memorized it from the night of the party. That means that someone must be home. I got out of the car and made my way to the front door.
  • One ring, to ring, three ring, then I waited. A few minutes went by, and no one came to get to the door. I heard muffle of male and female voice, so I was sure that someone is home.
  • A couple more ring and another paused, but still nothing. I was starting to get agitated, so manner was thrown out the door. I started hammering the doorbell relentlessly. These people need to know I mean business.
  • The door finally open and I as greeted by an incredibly angry Anderson. He was top less wearing only his boxer. From the door I can see clothing strewn about on the floor. Both men and women. I’m get the feeling that I was interrupting their sex party. But I don’t care, my issue is way more important.
  • “Is Aiden here? I need to talk to him.” I asked him, clearly agitated.
  • “Yeah, he is here. Do you want to come in?” He is breathing heavily, which I don’t understand.
  • But it doesn’t matter. I’m not going inside, I’m here for one thing and that is to talk to Aiden. Also, I don’t want to know what is going on in there.
  • “No, can you call him down. I need to talk to him. This is urgent.” He nodded and practically ran upstairs. I saw him go upstairs into Aiden’s room. I could hear muffles and groans before both guys came down. Anderson now has a shirt on. Aiden in a t-shit and boxer.
  • “Can you meet me and Clara at the park later today. We have something important to discuss.” I ask as calm as I can. My eye darted up the stair when I saw movement from the door that supposed to be Aiden room.
  • Two girls stand on top of the staircase, glaring down at me. They were both naked with only a towel on them. Clearly angry that I had interrupted their little party.
  • They both scowled at me and then walked back into the room. These people like to have group sex. Disgusting. My attention turns back to the boys, and I am waiting for their answer.
  • “Sure, what time and where?” Aiden asks.
  • “6 pm, tonight. By the park playground.” I had picked this time because I knew there would be less people by then. It is more convenient.
  • “Ok, we’ll be there.” Aiden agreed.
  • After that I turn to leave, but Anderson stops.
  • “What this about?” He asks, still as confused as the night I first met him.
  • “I can’t tell you. I want Clara to be the one to tell Aiden. This is their business and I’m just the messenger.” After that I left. Leaving him more confused than ever.
