Chapter 4

  • Zoey's POV
  • Matteo Harmon immediately put on a stern face and said, "How can you belittle your daughter like that? Zoey has her strengths too."
  • Daria snorted and said, "What strengths could she possibly have?"
  • "Zoey is kind," Matteo Harmon retorted.
  • "Kind?" Daria laughed as if she had heard the biggest joke in the world, "Eight years ago, when she was only fourteen, she went to bars to smoke and drink, hung out with thugs, and was involved in scandals of promiscuity and abortion."
  • Matteo humphed, displeased, "If Zoey says it didn't happen, then it didn't! How can you, as her mother, have no trust in your own daughter?"
  • Daria didn't continue the argument, but just glared at me fiercely.
  • Jordan Harmon, who had been silent all along, looked at me and said earnestly, "No matter what you've done in the past, after the engagement, you must be prepared to play the role of the Madox family's granddaughter-in-law. The Harmon family's reputation can't afford any more damage."
  • Daria couldn't help but sneer, "Who knows what she's turned into after those eight years abroad? After the engagement, you should learn from Ariana and see how to become a qualified socialite."
  • Seeing this, Ariana tried to mediate, "Oh, Mom and Dad, stop it, those are all rumors. I believe in Zoey."
  • Daria scoffed, "I'm just reminding her!"
  • "Enough!" Matteo slammed his fork on the table, roaring in anger, "Zoey is getting engaged tomorrow. Can't you stop? If you're not tired of talking, I'm tired of listening!"
  • I said, "It's okay. I'll behave well in the future."
  • Before going to bed, I received a message on my phone. It was from Nelson.
  • "Zoey, is your stomach still hurting?"
  • I rolled my eyes, thinking of the truth Nelson revealed to me in my previous life. Suppressing the disgust and discomfort inside, I replied, "It doesn't hurt anymore."
  • "Good. How about the candy?"
  • "It was delicious. You and Ariana did a good job."
  • "I'm glad you liked it. Tomorrow night, you'll officially become my fiancée. I'm so happy."
  • I sneered inwardly and replied, "I'm also very happy. See you tomorrow night."
  • After replying, I thought of my previous self, who, despite having talent, was easily manipulated by them.
  • It was because I trusted them too much that I ended up blind and naive.
  • But in this life, I will never repeat the same mistakes.
  • "Ariana, there's a ring exchange at the engagement ceremony tomorrow. Could you help me bring the rings up then?" I sent a message to Ariana.
  • "Sure, no problem." Ariana replied quickly.
  • I was sitting in the dressing room, focusing on sending messages.
  • "Play it during the ring exchange, got it?"
  • Roland replied, "No problem! Just wait and see the show."
  • I put away my phone, a confident smile playing on the corners of my lips.
  • Yes, a wonderful show is about to begin.
  • Suddenly, there was a knock on the door, and then Ariana pushed it open.
  • "Zoey, the engagement banquet has started. It's time for you to go on stage."
  • As soon as she appeared, with my awakened werewolf's keen sense of smell, I instantly caught the strong scent of Nelson on her, and seeing her swollen lips, I understood what had happened.
  • Clearly, she and Nelson had a secret relationship.
  • In my previous life, I trusted them and never thought about this.
  • But now, with the insight and perception brought by the awakening of my werewolf nature, all signs clearly pointed to this.
  • I smiled and responded, "Okay."
  • I stood up, and seeing this, Ariana's face changed instantly.
  • She widened her eyes and asked, "Zoey, you changed your dress?"
  • At this moment, I was wearing a white lace dress, with silver flats, my slightly curly black hair falling around my waist, and a light makeup that made my face look clean and gentle, like a fairy descending from a fairyland.
  • I smiled and asked in return, "Not pretty?"
  • Just then, my keen werewolf hearing caught the faint sound of footsteps in the corridor outside the door, as if someone was deliberately lowering their voice to eavesdrop on our conversation.
  • I frowned, alert in my heart, wondering who this ill-intentioned person could be.
  • Ariana forced a smile, squeezing out a few words, "P-pretty. Nelson will definitely be impressed."
  • I saw her clenched palm and understood that she was worried I would attract Nelson.
  • I patted her shoulder, silently thinking to myself, 'Don't worry. I have no interest in such a scumbag.'
  • At the same time, I seemed to emit a subtle aura that only werewolves could perceive.
  • This was unconsciously released, perhaps an instinctive response to the upcoming challenge.
