Chapter 11 One Night Stand

  • Chapter Eleven
  • Kayla's POV
  • Regular closing time was by five o'clock except for the kitchen staff still had something they were doing.
  • It had just hit five o'clock when I heard my phone ring. I picked up the call, smiling when I saw that it was my father.
  • "Hey, dad."
  • "Hey, baby girl!" He said enthusiastically and I cringed at the nickname. If only he knew his best friend addressed me the same way. It didn't sound innocent to my ears anymore but I couldn't tell him that. "I'm sure it's five over there. How was your first day at work?"
  • It was around ten in America and I was sure my dad was at work but he took the time to call me to inquire about working at Bruce's company.
  • "It's fine. I didn't do much since it's my first day but we'll get there."
  • "Is Bruce treating you well?"
  • A little too well, considering that he was giving me orgasms. "He's your best friend, Dad." I laughed. "What do you think?"
  • "He has always been a gentleman."
  • "Yeah. He's nice."
  • "And I hope no man has hit on you yet."
  • "I'm twenty-one, dad. You should be worried if I don't have a boyfriend."
  • "Italian men are charmers." He grumbled. "I don't want you to fall into any of their trap."
  • They were charmers alright. I was so focused on Bruce that I didn't even have the opportunity to notice other men. All the men I'd come across were handsome and charming like my father had said but none of them were Bruce.
  • None of them could make me wet with just a few words. None of them could make me squirm under their gazes. None of them had me wanting to jump them anytime I saw them.
  • "You don't have to worry about that."
  • "That's true. Bruce is there to protect you."
  • Of course.
  • "Alright, baby girl, I've got to go. Duty calls."
  • "It's fine. I love you, dad."
  • "Love you too, baby. Have a nice evening."
  • With that, he hung up and I saw that it was a few minutes past five. I stood up and arranged my desk. Then I took my bag and left the office, going to Bruce's office.
  • He had shown me his office but he didn't exactly show me the inside.
  • I knocked on the door but I didn't get a response. I frowned, wondering if he was inside at all. I pushed the door open, stopping short when two pairs of eyes fixed on me.
  • "Sorry," I said sheepishly.
  • "I'm having a meeting right now. You can wait outside." Bruce informed me and didn't wait for a response before he went back to his meeting.
  • I frowned at the abrupt dismissal, closing the door. I didn't understand Bruce at all. Sometimes, he acted like he cared about me. Other times, he dismissed me like he didn't know me.
  • I didn't know whether to go back to my office or to wait there as he suggested. I sighed but I didn't have the time to decide because a man approached me from another office. "Miss Kayla John?"
  • "Yes, that's me."
  • "Mr. Walter requested I take you home."
  • "But—"
  • "He's in a serious meeting with his secretary and it wouldn't end anytime soon."
  • Defeated, I followed him. "Who are you?"
  • "His driver."
  • I shook my head, releasing a chuckle. That wasn't the answer I wanted to hear but it would do. It was a silent ride from the office back to the penthouse.
  • I thanked the driver after he dropped me off and turned around to go back to the company.
  • When I arrived at the penthouse, I stopped in my tracks at the figure sitting on the couch, watching TV and eating popcorn.
  • "What are you doing?" I asked, my mood dropping at the sight of Theresa. I didn't know how she managed to get under my skin so much but everything she did irked me.
  • "Watching TV." She stated the obvious. I gritted my teeth. I knew she was the housekeeper but it was annoying that she had access to the house whenever she wanted.
  • It was a house that I was going to be staying in soon. I needed privacy.
  • "I can see that, Theresa. Why are you here?"
  • She wasn't doing any cleaning or cooking which was all she was supposed to do in the penthouse. She definitely didn't need to sit around and watch TV like she owned the place.
  • "I am waiting for Bruce, Kayla."
  • "Why are you waiting for him?"
  • "He's my boss and it's none of your business too."
  • I scoffed and went inside my room to take a shower and change into casual clothes. I spent over an hour in the shower, trying to calm myself down. I was disappointed that I didn't get to ride with Bruce home. I was dissatisfied that he didn't answer the question I asked about his housekeeper. I was annoyed by the presence of said housekeeper.
  • By the time I got out, Bruce was just arriving.
  • Without sparing me a look, he stared at Kayla and nodded his head. She gave me a smug look and followed him into his room.
  • I ground my teeth against each other as I settled down to watch TV.
  • I put on one of my favorite shows but I could barely concentrate because my mind kept drifting to Bruce and Theresa. I wondered what they were doing in his room.
  • I'd never even seen his bedroom.
  • Bruce wouldn't have sex with her right? He was her boss!
  • But then again, he was technically my boss and he fucked me.
  • Fuck! My thoughts weren't helping. They were everywhere, trying to decipher what was going on. I felt like going to eavesdrop, but I didn't want to invade Bruce's privacy.
  • I was jealous as hell. Why did she get to be in his room while I was stuck out here, wondering what the hell they were doing in there?
  • I was certain I would go crazy if I kept thinking about the together but I couldn't help it.
  • Why were they taking this long anyway?
  • It was more than thirty minutes before Theresa finally came out of the room zipping her pants up.
  • Thirty minutes was enough time to have sex and the way she was rearranging her outfit only meant one thing.
  • I knew he wasn't mine but there was something about her smug expression that annoyed me.
