• Determined to keep busy, Maya threw herself into her public engagements and wrote as many personal replies as she could to the many letters and cards she received. She discovered that if she kept herself busy, she didn’t think so much, and that was a good thing because her thoughts frightened her.
• She didn’t want to think what might happen if Lucian didn’t love their baby.
• And, since that couldn’t immediately be resolved, she pushed the thought away.
