Chapter 8 His Black Wolf
- Ayla's POV
- "Do you want me to accuse you of listening to other's conversation, my Luna?"
- I panicked the moment I heard his deep voice. He's so swift that I wasn't able to feel his presence on my back.
- "A-Alpha, I'm just going for a stroll through this verdant forest." I kept my head low, avoiding his lethal glares.
- Alpha Liam stepped towards me. He remained silent but his dominating aura was enough to send me warnings, he's like a silent bomb who's about to explode.
- I immediately looked up and growled a little warning at him.
- "Is that all?"
- He smirked at me.
- What's with his filthy smirk?
- Has he decided to constantly make fun of my reactions?
- I decided to gather all my strength to answer his question. "Yes, Alpha."
- I secretly buried my sharp paws on the ground when a brief but insulting laugh escaped his lips.
- "You mean roaming around with a little bit of eavesdropping?" Alpha Liam asked.
- Still, I pretended to be an innocent bystander who hasn't heard anything.
- What's with all the questions?
- Do I really deserve to be interrogated in such a manner?
- The next thing I knew, I started acting as if my eyes got widened in shock. I just shook my head and gave him a response.
- "I haven't heard anything…I just saw you and Selena standing there like you're having a short conversation, Alpha."
- "Then?" He stared at me with a fascinating smile and a teasing look.
- Again, I did my best to convince him of my innocence. "Forgive me for leaving the mansion without your permission, Alpha. I just wanted to go outside and get some fresh air."
- Looking over, I saw him pressed his lips together like he was being impatient with me.
- "Aren’t you jealous of what you saw?"
- I gasped.
- I must admit that his question was out of the blue.
- "Why would I? Isn’t she supposed to be your chosen mate?"
- He shook his head and tried to meet my gaze. "No, that’s impossible. I'm in front of that woman right now."
- After pausing for a brief period of time, Alpha Liam quickly moved forward and touched my fur.
- "Your fur looks beautiful, my Luna."
- "T-Thank you?" I muttered between my words.
- Honestly? It's been a long time since someone complimented my wolf. As far as I could remember, it was Beta Damian who first saw me shift on the cave when we first met. After that, it was a rare occasion for me to transform since I've been busy with my daily chores in the Beta's mansion.
- "The color of the snow looks stunning under the sun, will you let me touch it once more?"
- My wolf squinted her eyes, and I sensed her becoming hostile. I tried to talk to her to ask her to calm down and she did so.
- "Speechless?" he asked.
- My entire body stiffened. I knew telling him the truth that I hate being touched would only ruin his mood.
- "I'm sorry, but my wolf has a delicate sensibility."
- He flinched at first before his arms folded in front of me. "Maybe, your wolf hates me after everything she heard."
- "I told you, I didn't heard anything."
- Alpha Liam's voice became dangerous. "Don't lie, you were here for more than 30 minutes. You can't hide your presence from me."
- I shook my head and gave him a disappointed expression, "I'm sorry, Alpha…We both hate you for being heartless."
- I waited for his response, but all he did was took a deep breath and stared at me in the eyes.
- I don't care what he would think of my behavior but all I want is for him to realize how heartless he was for instantly crushing Selena's heart.
- "Heartless to whom?"
- "To Selena..." I quickly answered.
- The shock from what I've said was clear but he managed to regain himself.
- "Are you deaf? She insulted you big time, Ayla. I'm sure you heard all of it."
- I got a little nervous but I couldn't stop myself. I already called him heartless, might as well tell him all of my thoughts about their conversation.
- "I still care about her feelings and I truly understand that she's just upset about the Alpha's pick. You rejected her and became a heartless man a while ago, my dear Alpha," I said without looking at him.
- It's been a few minutes but still, he remained speechless.
- Either way, I was glad to be able to converse with him about his relationship with Selena, it was compelling and dangerous at the same time.
- But I hope I was able to move his dark selfish thoughts in the light, even just for a short period of time.
- "Please pardon me, Alpha Liam. I need to go back to the mansion."
- I turned around to leave but, unfortunately my body remained to where it is upon hearing his order.
- "Stop right there, rouge!" he said in a firm voice.
- I let out a large amount of air as I became aware of my body trembling in response to his remarks. I don't want to follow his orders but my body just stopped moving on its own.
- Alpha Liam glared at me and snarled, "How dare you call me heartless? All I did this whole day was to defend my choice of making you my Luna."
- Should I express my gratitude to him for standing up for me, or should I beg him to discontinue this agreement to stop everything?
- "Anyone who saw that would call you callous, Alpha."
- I defended my stance against his next reaction.
- "Callous?" he asked while staring at me with a menacing look.
- "Yes, because you just rejected the most beautiful she-wolf in the pack. Not once, but twice."
- He continued to glare at me angrily, as if he wanted me to disappear right then and there.
- "You don't have the right to call me callous for rejecting a stupid she-wolf. Selena is not pretty at all. She is just an ordinary she-wolf."
- "Ordinary?" I almost smiled in front of the Alpha. "You’re unbelievable, Alpha. I'm the one who’s ordinary, are you blind?"
- I wanted to chuckle, but I suppressed it inside. Perhaps I should take a shower later and let these funny emotions passed by themselves.
- "You're the one who's unbelievable for labeling your Alpha as heartless and blind."
- "I am indeed ordinary," I reply dully.
- I was about to remind him that he got a rogue for a Luna, a broken piece of the Creeze Bloody War when he suddenly changed the topic.
- "Do you want me to give your arm a scratch?" he asked, bringing confusion all over my face.
- "S-Scratch? What do you mean, Alpha?"
- For a moment, I simply waited for his answer. Silently praying that my guess wasn't right.
- "Yeah, because I know it will heal instantly."
- Those words made my heart stopped for a moment.
- He's aware of the gift I inherited from my mother, how?
- Did I do something to blunt for him to notice?
- "H-How did you discover my gift?" I reply, though the words come out strained.
- I draw a deep breath and noticed the slight curve on his lips. Is he that eager to reveal my secret that he's observing my smallest move?
- "You didn't feel the paper cut last time," he answered briefly.
- "From the magazine?"
- "Yes, while you’re reading it. I saw your finger suddenly stopped bleeding," he stated with a cheerful expression.
- My gaze locked on the ground. How can he be cheerful about this conversation? Is it because he was able to confirm that I wasn't an ordinary she-wolf like what I was claiming?
- "I'm sorry, Alpha, but I have to shift back. I forgot my daily duty with your office."
- I carefully made an attempt to advance, but his quick movement stopped me in my tracks.
- "You are not going anywhere. Let me remind you that I am your Alpha and this is my domain," he said, exhibiting his authority.
- His face quickly adopted a dark expression, and I was about to respond when I noticed his eyes had turned crimson.
- I was unable to take my feet away from him for some strange reason as I watched the famed clan leader, the Alpha, transformed into a wolf.
- He stood there on four legs, towering in front of me.
- My wolf turned her head low. This was the first time I saw his transformation up close.
- I can't even speak since I'm too busy admiring his gorgeous black fur. That was threatening enough and more convincing when he proved to me that he was the best by holding his head high.
- I have to admit that even though I am afraid of what I am seeing; I couldn't help but find his wolf form amusing.
- "That gorgeous black fur…" I took a deep breath. "You are indeed a powerful Alpha."
- He stared at me, wearing a frown on his face. "Damn! Are you listening to me?"
- I gave him a nod and looked up to meet Alpha Liam’s serious eyes. For a moment, I knew I lost myself because of his transformation.
- "I don't want to see you roaming around in your wolf form without me. Never again, Ayla!" he scolded me as his eyes harden.
- I swallowed hard and meet his gaze. What he told me was rude enough to bring me back to my senses.
- "You said my fur is lovely, so why do you want me to keep it hidden from everyone?"
- Alpha Liam stared at me for a moment. "No more questions."
- "Why do you sound so possessive?"
- "Stop dreaming. I told you that our engagement was nothing special," he told me, maintaining a neutral tone.
- I let out a sigh."There’s no attraction?"
- I thought I was able to pull him into the light but I guess, he's not just a typical heartless man who's afraid to trust and accept others.
- "You know, my dear Luna, you might meet someone and dislike them completely."
- I stand there for a moment processing his statement.
- "Are you referring to me or Selena?"
- "Both…" His voice was deep and condensing.
- My eyes flickered at the thought, did the moon goddess cursed him to be this way? How could he be so dense?
- "Your words hurt a lot, Alpha. You truly are a heartless man."
- He lifted his bushy eyebrow in my direction. "Call me heartless again and you’ll receive a punishment."
- His commanding tone nearly caused my heart to fall out of my chest. I couldn't move and take my eyes off him. Will his beast have my head for breakfast tomorrow?
- "Let me show you how powerful I am."
- "Where are we going?"
- I showed him my curiosity while slowly walking behind him. I don't want his pack to see that we're getting lovey-dovey while walking in our wolf form.
- What I wanted was to escape from here and bury myself in his old library which I discovered when he allowed me to explore his office.
- "In a high land from which you can look down on my territory."
- I did not utter a single word as we approached the highland. I simply observed everything, including the houses, businesses, and structures, and it amuses her in some way.
- "Any thoughts?"
- Glancing around, my lips formed a genuine smile. "It’s beautiful…I'm unaware that the town would appear this way from above."
- He agreed while staring intensely at his domain. His head was high again, like a powerful king proudly looking at the result of his hard work.
- "Swear to the Gods, I will make my domain wealthier and stronger."
- I gradually closed my eyes upon hearing his vision.
- "You are capable of anything, Alpha. You've surpassed all of the other Alphas in power and prestige."
- I'm starting to believe that despite of the Alpha's hot and cold personality, things would continue to be fine. Maybe, I just need to show him how capable I am, not as his Luna but as a person.
- Suddenly, my wolf interrupted my thoughts, and the Alpha was too quick to shift into his defensive mode.
- "Be careful, Ayla! Here comes the Deltas!" my wolf exclaimed.
