Chapter 13 When an Open Door Leads to Unforeseen Events
- Claudia and her assistant were right behind, both looking scared.
 - Ethan was caught up in a fight!
 - If David finds out about Ethan's link to the King's ...
 - But Claudia was surprised by Leah's words. "Leah, you've got it all wrong."
 - Claudia quickly waved over the staff and explained things.
 - Leah's face changed when she heard this.
 - She felt a drop in her heart.
 - Claudia looked straight at Ethan. "Ethan, what were you thinking?
 - "At first, I thought you were just messing around with what you were saying, but now, what's this all about? Do you understand how important this is?"
 - Ethan looked puzzled. "I was just defending myself. What's the problem?"
 - "What's the problem? Don't you get it?" Claudia was upset. "Do you not grasp how serious this is? Even if basic sense isn't your thing, can you at least pay attention?
 - "Are you planning to keep this up until you're happy?"
 - Leah also started feeling overwhelmed as she realised the gravity of the situation.
 - Usually, people in charge at the venue behave themselves.
 - Why? Aren't they usually full of themselves? Nope!
 - Because today's the fancy dinner for the prestigious Heather Group, and Emberhold's elites are all over trying to impress!
 - And now, Ethan chose today, of all days, to start a fight!
 - She wondered why she was even bothered by saving Ethan.
 - "Even if I had eyes in the back of my head, it's just a dinner, not a chance for them to walk all over me," Ethan said, not bothered.
 - Hearing him, Claudia was fuming, and Leah felt like she was about to collapse.
 - "Just a dinner?" Riley couldn't help but burst out laughing.
 - "Mr. Bennett, you're the silliest man I've ever met. Thank goodness I, Riley, didn't end up with someone as clueless as you!"
 - Alfred also couldn't help but smirk, anticipating Ethan's fall.
 - Others nearby started gossiping among themselves, enjoying the drama.
 - "Did the Kings bring this guy here? Matthew's really losing his touch as he gets older!"
 - "What an embarrassment, it's just pathetic, hahaha!"
 - As Ethan heard the mocking laughter around him, his face went cold, and he pulled out his phone and made a call.
 - "Is this dinner supposed to be for me? If so, let's get one thing straight, I'm not interested. Call off the dinner!"
 - On his way to Oakridge Villa, David was speeding in his Bugatti.
 - That morning, David's mom suddenly got severely sick, making him skip the banquet and have Heather pick up Ethan instead.
 - Caught up in his thoughts, David hurried to the villa when his phone rang.
 - "What? Mr. Bennett is upset?"
 - The news made David panic, causing him to lose control of the vehicle.
 - Squeak, squeak, crash!
 - The Bugatti rammed into a tree as though it had lost its sense, leaving David in a sorry shape.
 - But he couldn't focus on his injuries. He immediately grabbed his phone.
 - "Mr. Bennett is probably mad about how we went ahead with the banquet without consulting him. Quickly, cancel the banquet as he wants, and I'll personally say sorry later."
 - Back at Oakridge Villa.
 - Ethan was getting really turned off by the banquet and its guests, even though he knew why David had organised it.
 - When the cancellation was announced, the room first went quiet, then burst into laughter.
 - "Is this dude serious?"
 - "Which loony bin left its door open and let him escape?"
 - Claudia tried her best to hold herself back from slapping Ethan as a reaction to the teasing.
 - Leah was leaning on the table, more confused than ever. This guy had totally baffled her, something that hadn't happened in over twenty years.
 - Meanwhile, Alfred and Riley were almost rolling on the floor laughing at Ethan.
 - "You're the star clown of the show, a big shot in Emberhold without his cape, and the ace in a deck of cards. You're just a jester, and guess what? This banquet was meant for you ... "
 - "The banquet is cancelled!"
 - Suddenly, a loud voice cut through as the owner of Oakridge Villa and some serious-looking folks showed up.
 - They glared at the attendees and declared, "The higher-ups have decided. This banquet is over, and everyone needs to leave!"
 - Though puzzled by the abrupt change, the fear of the Heather Group's power made everyone oblige without further ado.
 - Alfred and Riley's laughter died in their throats, their faces frozen in shock.
 - The room went dead silent.
 - Claudia was in disbelief, thinking she had heard wrong.
 - Eventually, someone mustered the courage to ask, "Sir, are you for real?"
 - The master shot them a cold look.
 - "Wasn't I clear enough?
 - "The banquet is cancelled!"
 - His declaration echoed, leaving everyone speechless.
 - Everyone's eyes were on Ethan, with Claudia, Leah, Riley, and Alfred showing sheer disbelief.
 - Could this banquet be all for him?
