Chapter 7 I'm Divorcing You

  • Just as the atmosphere was about to collapse completely—
  • Tina shouted in a deep voice, “William! Nothing’s been confirmed. You are not allowed to throw filth on Julie. I believe her. She wouldn’t do something like this.”
  • Her pressure silenced the room instantly.
  • I turned my head and crashed straight into the gaze of William’s cousin, Adrian.
  • He leaned back in his chair, lazy, like he was watching a show that had nothing to do with him.
  • But when his eyes landed on me, there was a strange familiarity in them that made my heart shiver.
  • “Tina, you mean…”
  • Ann’s eyes brimmed, frail as if she might fall at any second. “You are saying… I did this?”
  • Her weak tone was like an invisible hand, skillfully pushing every accusation back toward me.
  • The room dropped into dead silence again.
  • The elder Luna Tina hated actresses more than anything and she hated William getting tangled up with Ann even more. This time, William had the nerve to bring Ann to a family dinner. Tina was never going to give her a pleasant face.
  • Over on the couch, the doctor held Rocco, urgency on his face. The child looked worse and worse, and there was no choice but to take him away.
  • And William still stood there, blocking in front of Ann, his voice cold as a blade covered in frost.
  • “Tina, she would never do something like that. This must be Julie’s work. Three years ago, she framed Ann the same way.”
  • I felt hollow inside.
  • In this entire family, maybe Grandma Tina was the only one still willing to believe me.
  • Ann took a soft step forward. “Julie, even if you hate me, you can’t hurt a child…”
  • Smack—
  • I didn’t even think. My hand came up and slapped her face.
  • Crisp, and loud. The whole room fell dead silent.
  • “It wasn’t me. I won’t admit to something I didn’t do. You slander me once, I endure it. Twice, I endure it. A third time?”
  • I stared at her, my voice low as a wind blade in the dark.
  • “You’re asking to die.”
  • Ann stood there stunned. Red welts rose across her cheek in seconds.
  • On Tina’s right, Adrian narrowed his eyes, fingertips resting on the tabletop, a half-smile playing at his mouth.
  • That tiny upward curve seemed to say—This woman was interesting.
  • William charged forward, shielding Ann behind him, fury surging. “Julie, what the hell are you doing?! Three years, and not only did your wolf nature not get tamed, you’re even more vicious!”
  • The doctor had gone upstairs with Rocco. I didn’t have the energy to argue with him. I meant to check on the child and leave.
  • But unexpectedly, William suddenly grabbed my wrist and yanked me back hard.
  • “Julie! Let’s make things clear today. You’re not going anywhere.”
  • I threw his hand off, my fingers trembling with anger. “You want to make it clear?”
  • I lifted my eyes.
  • “I’m divorcing you.”
  • The room went so quiet I could hear every wolf’s breathing stop.
  • Everyone stared at me like I’d lost my mind, including William.
  • This dinner was to welcome Adrian back.
  • And I, in front of every wolf there, slapped William in the face without touching him.
  • Adrian straightened a little, looking at me for the first time.
  • A white dress. A body too thin. A sickly pallor. And that stubbornness that flared brighter when I’d been pushed to the edge…
  • Rocco was still crying, the house a mess of chaos.
  • And William kept humiliating me.
  • “Even if you want to make a scene, do you have to do it here? Whatever it is, we talk at home. Why drag our private business into a family dinner?”
  • I stared at the way he protected Ann, and every fur on my wolf bristled.
  • “Then tell me,”
  • I stepped closer and closer, my voice cold as the prison’s chains,
  • “What am I supposed to do so it isn’t make a scene?”
  • “Admit in public that I put the wasabi in the sauce? Take the blame for someone else?”
  • I looked at him, my sarcasm cutting to the bone.
  • “The one who dares to do it but won’t admit it that’s the one who’s truly shameless.”
  • The moment those words landed, the entire room’s scent shifted.
  • “Julie, you’ve really had enough—”
  • William hadn’t finished speaking when a low, cold voice cut in.
  • “William. If there’s no evidence, you shouldn’t bite down and insist it was her.”
