Chapter 2 The Accident Guy

  • When I visit him, he thanks me for staying with Petra and helping him move his construction company forward. He also warns me that if I leave before paying his debt, they will kill him and Sofia. He tells Sofia and her mother that thanks to me, the company did not go bankrupt, and they should be grateful. They just roll their eyes and look at me disdainfully.
  • After all the hypocritical thanks from my father, minutes later when someone visits him at home and I am there, he introduces Sofia as his daughter and sends me to the kitchen. He is embarrassed for others to see me and associate me with his family. I am quite polite, he always talks about having a daughter, but what am I then? Of course, I don't wear designer clothes, shoes, or bags like Sofia does. I am more polite, of course, but he doesn't see it that way.
  • In my family, I am a little less than the dog, and my father always manages to convince me to do whatever he wants. With Sofia and my stepsister, whom I have shared very little with, they are ashamed of me. They don't know where I live, but they are ashamed of my way of dressing. I know Sofia envies me. They say I am very beautiful and she can't handle that, so whenever she can, she makes my life impossible, to the point of presenting me at some point as her personal employee. It was humiliating.
  • According to my father, I must stay by Petra's side because one day the construction company will be my inheritance, and I must pay for it. But if I leave Petra at this moment, the men who work for her will kill him and harm Sofia. I would never allow that. They are the only family I have.
  • That day, I was a little distracted on my way to university. As I crossed the street, a car coming at high speed hit me, throwing me several meters away. A middle-aged man in a full suit got out of the car.
  • "Miss, are you okay? The traffic light was green, I didn't have time to stop when you crossed the street. Are you feeling okay? Do you need me to take you to the doctor? I will call an ambulance."
  • "What's going on, Oscar? How is the woman?" A thunderous voice said from inside the car.
  • "Sir, the girl is a bit bruised, I think we should take her to the hospital."
  • "Damn it, how is it possible that people don't watch where they're going? Can't they learn the colors of the traffic light and their meaning?" said the man as he got out of the car.
  • For a moment, as I saw that body and that face of the man, I was speechless. I felt a void in my stomach. He was the most attractive man I had ever seen in my life.
  • "Let's see, miss, what's wrong? Do I really have to deviate from my path for you and go to the hospital because you didn't pay attention to what you were doing? I have a meeting with my partners and now this."
  • The man's voice became more and more disdainful as he looked at me. I could see it from the corner of my eye. When I looked at him to respond quite angrily, I could see his eyes widen a bit, somewhat surprised. But it was only for a few seconds, and he said again.
  • "Oscar, take this woman to the hospital. I will call for someone to pick me up immediately. Really, women surprise me more and more with their stupidity every day. They are so foolish, I don't understand. I don't know any woman who is really worth it. They are all idiots, they seem truly retarded," the man said aloud and seemed quite annoyed. "How much do you want, tell me now and let's avoid lawsuits for the accident. I'm telling you this because people like you will be trying to bribe me tomorrow when they see how they can get into my company, so tell me all at once, how much do you want."
  • "Excuse me, sir, you are mistaken with me, I am not stupid or retarded, I was just a bit distracted, we have all been there, and I definitely don't want your money. I'm sorry, I was caught off guard and I don't know what happened to you with women for you to speak like that about them, and honestly, I don't care. But please stop talking to me in that way, have some respect. Besides, while it's true that I crossed without looking, your driver was going at a high speed. As far as I know, this place has a speed limit, and you", I said pointing at the driver, "were going faster than allowed."
  • As I tried to get up from the street, quite sore, with my knees covered in blood, you know; men like you are trash, heartless, they think money can buy everything and that they can treat people however they please, and you can't buy me, understood?
  • The driver was signaling for me to stay quiet.
  • "Miss, please, stop talking, really, don't speak anymore, you'll get into more trouble, you don't know who my boss is, please."
  • "Oscar, that's what this guy said your name was, you should be ashamed to work for a man like that, he has no respect for the women in his family, by treating women on the street like he just treated me, he just showed it to me. I don't care who this guy is."
  • "Let's go, Oscar, it seems the woman is quite fine and doesn't need a heartless person like me to take her to the hospital."
  • Oscar immediately got into the luxury car, and the jerk who treated me like trash got into the back seat, as he passed by me on the road, where I hadn't been able to get up due to the intense pain, he didn't even look at me again.
  • "Idiot, he thinks money can do everything, but I'm not impressed by those kinds of men, I thought."
  • Making my best effort, I got up and walked to the university, the pain in my knees and back was quite strong, a girl from my class gave me some wet wipes to clean all the blood and see my somewhat deep scrapes, the class ended, I felt a strong pain, my knees were already swollen, I could barely walk.
  • "Cloe, come on, beautiful, I'll take you to the hospital, you can't walk like this."
  • "Thank you, Esteban, but with some ice and ointment, it will be fine by tomorrow."
  • "Okay, let's go, I'll take you home."
  • "Thank you, Esteban, my knees hurt a lot, the jerk did nothing, he just got out, treated me badly, and left when I stood up to him. You know I don't like being spoken to like that, treating me badly, I already have enough with my family and Petra."
  • "Cloe, I don't understand why you allow them to talk to you like that, really, I don't understand. Luckily, we're almost graduating, you'll get out of that place and be able to live life as you want. You shouldn't let Sofia and your father manipulate you, with a degree in hand, it's another story. In fact, my father could help you get a job at his company, let's see, we could end up being coworkers, maybe then you'll accept me as more than just your friend."
  • "Esteban, we've talked about this already, I don't have the head for anything else right now, I'm stressed about everything, I want to run away from this place, my family is a mess, the only good thing I have is you, and I don't know if I want our friendship to be ruined by trying something."
  • "Let's go, Cloe, if it doesn't work out, I promise everything will stay the same, just give me a chance."
  • At that moment, Esteban kissed Cloe, while they were in front of the nightclub in the car.
  • "You know I've been in love with you for a long time, I would never hurt you, and I definitely wouldn't want to lose your friendship."
  • "Give me time, we'll see what happens."
