Chapter 4 Can We Meet?
- After returning home from Blue Whale Automobile Dealer, Hunter secluded himself in his room. He even neglected his meals.
- Mabel would become furious whenever she thought about the woman who had humiliated them.
- She called Rachel and recounted what had happened. She wanted Rachel to seek revenge on behalf of Hunter. She even went as far as threatening to disown Rachel if she didn't comply.
- In a meeting room at Silverdream Corporation, Rachel sounded tense, "Alright, Mom, we can discuss this later at home. Just try to cheer him up..." Mabel finally wanted to end the call after that.
- Suddenly, the door was forcefully flung open, and her secretary burst into the meeting room. She exclaimed anxiously, "Ms. Holden, this is terrible! I just received a call from Phoenixhive Group. They have decided to terminate our cooperation for the next quarter and refuse to pay us."
- Rachel felt like her mind was about to explode. The financial difficulties in her company were already wreaking havoc on its operations, and now this!
- The influential individuals that Mabel introduced to her were only interested in Rachel because of her appearance and body. They had no intention of genuinely helping her with her company's problems! Why had things taken a turn for the worse recently? The company had been thriving in the past few years...
- "I understand..." Rachel propped her head up with her hands and let out a long sigh.
- Her employees were in an uproar upon learning about the termination of their contract with Phoenixhive Group!
- They emphasized that it was precisely because of Phoenixhive's support that Silverdream had been able to survive and prosper until now.
- If they withdrew their investment, Rachel's company would be on the brink of collapse.
- The general manager furrowed her brow. She threw a pen onto the table and said, "Rachel, now is not the time to feel discouraged. We need to brainstorm some ideas."
- The deputy manager added, "Yes, we can't afford to lose such a major client. We will all be out of jobs soon!"
- The other executives gathered around and exchanged thoughts.
- Eventually, they appointed a representative and said, "Ms. Holden, Phoenixhive Group has signed a contract with us for four quarters, but they are terminating it prematurely without providing a valid reason. Should we consider legal action to resolve this dispute?"
- "That's a possibility..." Some employees nodded in agreement.
- The general manager stood up and crossed her arms. She scoffed, "Do you realize the extent of Phoenixhive's influence? They are in a league of their own compared to us. Do you think we stand a chance in a legal battle?"
- "I can already foresee that our lawyers won't even make it to their office. They might reject us outright!"
- "Are they really that unreasonable? Withdrawing investments is not a trivial matter. Our collaboration with them in the first quarter went smoothly, and we didn't make any major mistakes..."
- "It's up to them to assess the quality and long-term benefits of our collaboration. And can we honestly say that our company strictly adheres to the rules and regulations outlined in our contract?"
- "They can easily crush us whenever they want. We were fortunate to enter into a partnership with them, but now that it's over, we can't really challenge them..."
- Someone shrugged. "So, does that mean we're just helpless? We'll all go down in flames."
- All eyes turned to Rachel. They were waiting for her to come up with a response.
- After some contemplation, Rachel pushed herself up from the desk.
- "I was the one who secured the contract for the first quarter. It's best if I personally pay them a visit now!"
- Everyone fell silent.
- As Rachel made her way there, she couldn't figure out the cause of this situation.
- Someone had anonymously sent her an email urging her to attend a conference organized by Phoenixhive Group.
- Following the contact provided in the email, she had a meeting with the group's general manager, Eileen.
- Strangely enough, their negotiation went smoothly without any obstacles. They were able to sign a contract worth one hundred million dollars on the same day. It was still a source of pride and joy for her.
- The company even celebrated extravagantly for three consecutive days upon learning that they could join forces with Phoenixhive Group.
- When Rachel arrived at the headquarters of Phoenixhive Group, she stepped out of her car and gazed up at the towering building.
- She went to a restroom to freshen up her makeup and then proceeded to the elevator to reach the twenty-second floor.
- She arrived at the reception counter.
- "Good day. I am Rachel Holden, the CEO of Silverdream Corporation. I would like to see Ms. Frost..."
- "Do you have an appointment?"
- "No."
- "I'm sorry, but you'll have to turn around and leave. Our manager is always busy!" The receptionist gestured towards the glass door entrance, indicating that she wouldn't accommodate Rachel.
- "Please call Ms. Frost now and inform her that Rachel from Silverdream is here. She will know what to do next."
- "I'm sorry, but I'm not authorized to interrupt the manager's meeting. It's our company policy!" The receptionist maintained a professional smile, which made Rachel feel awkward.
- Rachel knew she couldn't return empty-handed. Since the termination of her company's collaboration with Phoenixhive Group, the company had been in disarray. If she couldn't turn things around, she would have a hard time sleeping at night.
- She went to a corner and scrolled through her phone's contact list. When she saw Eileen's number, she dialed it.
- "Ms. Frost, I'm Rachel Holden from Silverdream Corporation. I need to discuss our collaboration for the upcoming second quarter. Can we meet?"
- There was a brief silence on the other end, and Rachel's heart pounded in her ears as she waited for Eileen's response.
- "I'm already standing outside your door!" She emphasized.
- "Rachel, I don't want to see you. Please leave!" Eileen abruptly ended the call.
- Rachel couldn't comprehend what was happening. When they first met, Eileen had been welcoming and polite, but now the situation was completely different. Eileen didn't even want to see her.
- Rachel, fueled by her indignation, repeatedly called Eileen in an attempt to reach her. However, her attempts only resulted in voicemails...
- As the CEO of a struggling company, Rachel was determined to do whatever it took to save her business.
- While the receptionist was engrossed in a spreadsheet, Rachel took a leap of faith and hurried towards the CEO's office. With determination, she pushed the door open.
- "Ms. Frost, I fail to comprehend the reasoning behind your company's decision to terminate our cooperation. This project is crucial for us, so I implore you to engage in a discussion..."
- Rachel, who was studying some documents, looked up at the figure standing at the door.
- Eileen had just dismissed Mabel, and now Rachel was right in front of her. Talk about bad luck. Eileen had underestimated Rachel's audacity to barge in like this.
- It appeared that Victor's ex-wife had a fiery temper!
- Eileen smiled mysteriously. Although Rachel was undeniably attractive, she was not Victor. She would not tolerate Rachel's disrespectful behavior.
- "I have nothing to say to you. The termination of our cooperation is the answer you seek! As for the reasoning behind it, you'll have to ponder and ask yourself!"
- After that, Eileen pressed a button on her office phone. "Security..."
- "Ms. Frost, I beg you, this project is of utmost importance to us..."
- Before Rachel could finish her sentence, two security guards in Phoenixhive uniforms rushed into the room.
- Eileen glanced at the guards, and they promptly escorted Rachel out of the office.
- As they passed by the reception counter, the receptionist gasped in shock: "People nowadays think they're superior to everyone else. People like you, who come here every day seeking personal favors from our manager, should give up on your futile attempts!"
- Rachel felt wronged, but she had no outlet to vent her frustration. She wanted to continue collaborating with Phoenixhive Group, but she never anticipated things would end like this.
- She left the headquarters feeling utterly embarrassed.
- Ever since parting ways with Victor, things had been going downhill.
- She hadn't had time to fully process her emotions about the divorce, and misfortunes continued to pile up, weighing her down. Her mother and brother were mistreated at a car dealership, and her company was on the brink of bankruptcy...
- Since her father's passing, Rachel had grown weary of single-handedly carrying Silverdream Corporation. The feeling of hopelessness had finally caught up with her...
